Final Project
That's right folks, I finally got the dang roses down. Getting the consistency of the icing right is just as hard as getting the roses right! Fortunately, you can make a whole mess of them, let them sit, and then use only the best ones on your cake. Otherwise, this would be a disaster and I bet you'd hardly ever see cakes with roses on them!
I start the Fondant and Gum Paste class in two weeks. This is the one I've really been looking forward to taking, and I'm soooooo excited! The instructor let us look at the course workbooks and you get to learn all sorts of cool stuff, including the COOLEST carnations from gum paste. Who would have thought I'd get excited about carnations?
This is the second cake I've made using the 8" x 3" round pan that I bought for this class at the teacher's recommendation, and I have to say, I really am convinced that it's making my cakes just THAT much moister. I'm a pretty good baker, and my cakes usually come out pretty moist anyway, but the two I've done in this pan just blow anything else I've done completely out of the water. They're that good. Very dense, very moist, not too sweet... that part is taken care of by the icing! HA!
Of course, red dye #40 is on the list of things to avoid when you're pregnant, so I've had a total of three bites of this, and I'll not be having any more. BOO.
Zee, if ya lived closer, I'd totally have a tea party with you!
