The saga of the UPS Man layout.

So, I posted this layout that I did of our old UPS guy earlier:

I told the story about how he knows one of the girls I work with, they were friends from way back. We were teasing her about how cute and young he is and we got him to let us take a picture of him to do a layout for the store.

Well, a week and a half ago, my boss informed me that a customer complained that the layout was innapropriate and offensive. I asked why. I was told the term "Eye Candy" was offensive to this customer. Uh, okay, whatever.

Well, the layout disappeared. My boss said she didn't remove it. The other girl who is friends with the guy didn't know what happened to it. It was a mystery.

Well, mystery solved. Boss told me on Monday that the person who complained was another woman who works at the store. She was SOOOO offended by the layout that she decided to pull it. Keep in mind that this woman has NO authority and only works there 8 hours a week, never with me. My boss told me that she didn't lie about it being a customer who complained, because this employee shops there too, as we all do. Uh, okay.

Well, today I told the other girl about what happened to the layout. She was like, you have to be kidding. We decided to hunt for it and found it in the back room, on the top shelf, tucked between two boxes in the far corner and facing the wall. It was THAT offensive, I suppose.

She told me I should just redo the journaling and put the layout back on display. I didn't want to do that, because I would just get pissed every time I looked at it and it's not worth it to me. One of our very good regular customers wanted to see this layout and she couldn't believe that someone got THAT upset over it.

I did redo the journaling, just for shits and giggles:

Old, offensive, inappropriate journaling:

Oh, UPS man, not only are you eye-candy, you bring us fabulous papers and other goodies to brighten our day!

Hee hee, NEW and IMPROVED journaling that almost made it back onto the floor:

Oh, what you do for us! You drive here, in that hot truck, getting all sweaty (but you still look good!) to bring us goodies to enjoy. We *heart* you!

My boss came in on her lunch hour, and I showed her the layout. I told her that I had rewritten the journaling and asked her opinion on the revised version. She skimmed it and said it looked great. Then she started to walk over to put it back on display!!!

I was like WHOA, no way is that going back out! Turns out, she didn't read it very well, ha ha!

In retrospect, I think it should have read:

Oh, what you do for us! You drive here, in that big, hot truck, getting all sweaty (but you still look good!) so that you can leave us happy and satisfied with the goodies you bring. We *heart* you!

I dunno, maybe I could have worked something in there about a package too? Hmm...
