I have nail issues. My fingernails have always, for as long as I can recall, been thin, brittle, misshapen things. Forget being able to polish them! Any time I would put polish on my fingernails it would always get these little bubbles and just look terrible. I tried every trick that I read for getting the polish on there properly - two very thin coats, one very thick coat, base coat, top coat, no base or top coat, hardeners, sprays, keeping my hands perfectly still while the polish dried, waiting ten minutes between coats, soaking in ice water...

Nothing worked, not when I started to use higher end polishes such as OPI, Essie and Deborah Lippman Collection. Nothing helped. I still had bumpy, bubbly polish whenever I attempted to add a little color to my hands.

Now, whenever I bemoan my nail polish issue (a first world problem if ever there was one, but still) people always assume it must be my technique that is falling short. However, I can polish my toenails without a single problem. When I had acrylic nails, I could also polish those without a bubble to be found. I've just come to the conclusion that it's my natural nails. They stink.

A couple of weeks ago I got it into my head that I wanted a pretty pastel blue/green for my toes. I know that's not a very autumnal color but that's what I wanted. I knew Essie has one called Turquoise and Caicos, but I didn't want to spend $8 for a bottle of polish that I'd use once or twice. I checked out Target and Walmart with no luck. Then, one night on a whim I decided to check out the Walgreen's on the corner and I found this:

It was perfect at just $2, and while I was there I also picked up a sparkly black to go with my Wishing-for-Halloween mood. Later that night, I polished my toes in the green and then went ahead and tried the black on my nails. Lo and behold - no bubbles. I was shocked. It must have been a fluke. A couple of days later, when it had chipped, I replaced it with the aqua. Same deal - no bubbles.

I was so excited, I ran out and bought three more bottles.

So far I've tried all five of the ones I bought. The only one that gave bad results was the navy. It came out of the bottle way thicker than the other ones, so I think it may have been old. The other four, however, are perfect. These are literally the first polishes I've used in my life that didn't leave bubbles on my fingernails. I can't wait to pick up more pretty colors! For the past two weeks I've just been grinning at my nails like an idiot. Well, with the exception of the morning after I did the black, and I scared the crud out of myself as I reached for my phone in the morning. I had forgotten they were painted! Other than that, happiness.

It's the little joys in life. :)
