Wishing for Fall

Okay, here in lovely Chandler, Arizona, suburb of Phoenix, nestled in the area dubbed "the Valley of the Sun", we don't really get fall. It's hot here until about Halloween, and then the weather cools off enough to be comfortable. The leaves don't really change color, pumpkin patches are just a bunch of pumpkins for sale in the corner of some parking lot, and it's still too hot to do any serious baking until mid-November. Not that this stops me, but still.

Of course, I go shopping and even though it's just the beginning of September, Halloween stuff has been out since the end of last month. Michael's even has Christmas stuff out already! The grocery store has aisles of candy. You go online, and everyone is talking about their fall decorations and discussing what to be for Halloween.

I feel left out sometimes. Sure, it's going to be great come February when it's 80 degrees here and everyone else is dealing with gray slushy snow, but right now? I want some autumn, damn it!

I've been reading Sam's blog and she's been making the CUTEST Halloween stuff. I figure, if she lives here in this outer circle of hell and can decorate, then I can too! Who cares if it was 105 degrees out today, right? I went to Joann, picked up a few items, then to Michael's and got a few more, and today put this lovely together:

I got rid of my old fall wreath earlier this year, as it was boring. Very monochromatic, with just leaves and black eyed Susans with a green and black gingham bow. *SNORE!* This one has flowers, and pumpkins, and leaves, and raffia and berries - the works. So much more interesting if you ask me. I like how it turned out, and the best part is that I can leave it up until after Thanksgiving because it's very "Fall" and not just "Halloween".

I also hung up my little Elsie-inspired skeleton and put the leftover mini pumpkins on the table by the door. I can't decide if she's a prude or not because her skirt is very long, but also very see-through...

I don't know why they're colored like that, but they didn't "go" with my wreath. Maybe I'll hang up my BOO letters too this year... if I get around to it!

Now I'm going to go finish my last burp cloth, and maybe work on my clipboard. Oh, and the invitations for the barbecue. There's quite the to-do list in my scraproom these days.

I love that wreath!

We live in Upstate NY and even though we have to deal with snowstorms and ice storms and then switch right over to beastly summer heat (we used to have Spring but it's been AWOL for awhile now), I love that we have seasons and fall is my absolute favorite.

Fall is my absolute favorite season. I was hoping for an early one this year. Sometimes it seems like it jumps straight from summer to winter here. But I did catch a glimpse of a yellow patch in the big tree across the street from my office. Those trees always turn the most gorgeous colors when fall really hits.
I also picked up some cool weather clothes for my little one today. I like to be prepared. :)
Oh- and your skeleton's skirt may be see through - but she's a little see through too, so I guess it works out ok. LOL

Love your wreath and your skeleton. She is adorable.
I also wanted to say that you were more than polite to the bag boy. I think by the point you are at I would have just smacked him. I don't care what men HEAR from women they do not KNOW anything about being pregnant!

Cute decorations!! I'm working on a fall wreath too, and trying to get some 'haunted' wreaths started.

Ugh on the bagger boy! My first was 2 weeks late and we were both huge. Oh those COMMENTS! But your craft projects sound fun!

Nice work. Maybe one of these days I will get inspired to decorate for fall. I do have some mums on my porch, but that's the extent of my decorating so far. :)

You have such a great eye for this stuff, hell I still love your old wreath, you can send it my way! LOL. Oh, sorry to hear about what your dog did to your couch. I used to keep my dog in the kitchen at night with a baby gate. Don't know if this would work for you.
