Not a Diamond Girl

Three Christmases ago, my mother in law gave me a pair of tiny diamond studs. I must confess, I've only worn them three times before today. It's not that I don't like them, on the contrary, I love them. They're pretty, yet tasteful, and probably one of the nicer bits of jewelry that I own. The thing is, I'm terrified that I'm going to lose one.

Then what? I'll tell you what, I'll be the idiot that lost a freaking DIAMOND, that's what.

So, I never wore them. They sat in their box, waiting for me. Before you start to ask about my engagement ring, I'll let you know that is a big fat Cubic Zirconia. I did NOT want a diamond ring at all, because historically, I've been very clumsy with rings and prone to knocking out stones. That's all I need is to accidentally bang my hand on a wall and knock the stone out, never to be seen again. There goes thousands of dollars down the drain! The worry about losing it, the expense of insuring it, heck, the expense of buying it in the first place - so not for me.

I got a puppy instead. I think I got the better end of the deal.

So, back to the earrings. I have a lot of earrings. Some I've bought, some I've made, some are gaudy and for fun, some are more understated. My favorite day to day ones are simple sterling silver ball studs, about 1/4 inch in diameter. Simple and tasteful. I took them out last night to clean them, and didn't put them back in before bed. This morning, I went to put them back on, and I happened to see the little maroon box in the drawer. The box with the diamonds. I pulled it out, opened it, and sadly, they weren't very shiny anymore.

I put them on. I deserve to wear diamonds if I have them, right? I've worn those other studs for a couple of years, and I haven't lost them yet. Maybe it will be okay. Maybe the worry and the stress will kinda go away on it's own. I've probably felt my ears twenty times so far today, checking to be sure that they are still there. Maybe some of the pressure is that my MIL gave them to me, and I don't want to ever have to tell her that I lost them! We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

In other news, I went ahead and did the drop down for baby stuff on my sidebar. I really need to revamp that. Actually, I think my whole blog could use a facelift, but who has the time? Fake shopping online is pretty dang fun though, I have to say. I just put stuff I find that I like there as a reference for me to go buy later. Brilliant! I also added the links to my registries, so I dont' have to try and remember them if I need to edit them for whatever reason. Good times.

I weighed myself yesterday, and I am up seven lbs at 18 weeks, five days. Not too shabby. It's been pouring rain here, and I am loving every minute of it. I hope it continues through the weekend, heck, at least through tomorrow so I can be home to enjoy it. 60 degrees is so nice after a week of 108 every day!

Sarah:

My dad is a jeweler. Relax about wearing the diamond earrings. Put them in your ears, and periodically check and see that you feel "posts." Do you have screw backings? If not, get those backings at any local jewelers.

For my birthday, I inherited my mother's 1 carat diamond earrings set in white gold. The only time that I don't wear them is when I am shopping (and will have to try on clothes). I love them. They make me "look" as if I have money (and of course, we know the answer to that).

CONGRATS about the baby! The Gucci bag is wonderful.
