A good coffee table is hard to find!

And THAT, my friends, is THE understatement of the year, apparently.

The coffee table we have is a cheap one that we got at Target about four years ago. When we were moving, something happened and it sort of came apart on one part. We managed to push it together, but it's super wobbly, and the wood is cracking where the hardware is holding it together. Add to that it doesn't match the nice TV stand and new bookshelves, or the look we're working toward in here. The wood is a reddish brown where everything else is a black/brown. The finish is actually wearing away from the top, because we use it a lot.

It's just sad.

We decided that we need to get either a round one, so there are no sharp corners for a baby to brain themselves on, or a firm ottoman-type deal. I don't want any combo of wood and glass touching, because glass cleaners tend to strip the finish on wood and wood cleaners leave glass streaky. If the base is wood and the top is glass, I'm okay with that, even though baby fingerprints won't be fun to clean.

This weekend, we headed out to various furniture stores to look for a new coffee table. We went to seven different furniture stores, HUGE stores, and found one maybe. That's it. How lame is that? We were actually out coffee table shopping when we ended up buying the car! I guess we're easily distracted, haha!

Anyway, this is sort of what the one we found looks like:

Just imagine it being a square, so another row of squares along the length. It also had shorter legs, so the material went almost all the way to the ground.

So, here we are at the end of the weekend, with the same old coffee table. The one we're considering is a black leather ottoman style one, in a square shape. I see them as coffee tables all the time in magazines and on HGTV show, but I have to say, I'm still on the fence.

This shouldn't be so hard! It's a freaking coffee table for crying out loud! I dunno, maybe we should replace the couch first then look for a coordinating table, and that would be easier. BLAH.

Love using an ottoman as a coffee table, works great, doesn't have sharp edges to bump, doesn't create a problem for propping up the feet at the end of the day and best of all, people don't pile stuff on it like they did the coffee table!

I love those types of coffee tables...very versatile. It's so hard shopping for something like that when you know what you want...but nothing is quite right in the 85 stores you go to!! I've been there.
