Going BACK to Kindergarten!

I've spent the last two days hanging out in Kindergarten. Oh my goodness, let me tell you, I looooooove Kindergarten! My friend is the teacher, and so since I currently don't have a job (not till next week anyway) I decided to volunteer in her room so she could get her assessment testing done and out of the way.

Her class is WILD. Now, I've been in plenty of Kindergarten classrooms before, both my own and those of others, but hers is up there in terms of wild kids. It's pretty hysterical. The other Kindergarten teacher asked me to watch her class for a few minutes so she could run to the restroom. I asked her what her kids were supposed to be doing. She said they were to be drawing pictures. Okay, simple enough. I look in her room and some aren't doing that, so I ask her if all of them were supposed to be drawing. She said yes. I asked, even the one over in the corner sitting on the beanbag chair? She rolled her eyes and said yes.

So first thing, I go in and make all the kids that were not at their seats go to their seats. Easy enough. Then I tell them all to work quietly. I go around the room admiring their artwork and let them tell me about it. I ask questions about the drawings to help prompt them to add more detail. The kids are all working silently when the teacher returns.

She leans over and asks me, isn't my class just as horrible as the other class? I laughed and told her no way! Her kids were great while she was gone. They behaved just like I would expect Kindergarteners to behave, not perfect, but pretty good. I told the teacher that the other class had not acheived a level of volume as low as her kids were currently displaying in the whole two days that I had been in that room. She looked at me as though I was insane, and then said, well, they are a high group. Um, the kid's intelligence level has NOTHING to do with their behavior, trust me, I know!!!

Anyway, I am going back tomorrow. It really is fun. Then Thursday and Friday I will be subbing in junior high. That's kind of scary, but maybe the kids will turn out to surprise me, who knows?

Pray for me, okay? ;)

Oh cool, a sub job. I would be a littlemore nervous with older kids, but I think they can be controlled easier...I think? Hehehe.

Glad to see more happening for you. Kindergarden sounds fun...hehehe. :)
