Sawyer's Not A Baby Anymore

That's right - today we celebrated this little man turning three.

I decorated his shirt to go with our party theme colors.

Since the theme was a "little man" party, I used mustaches as our theme decorations along with teal blue and lime green for the colors. I know the mustaches are over used these days and super trendy, but it was fun for our theme.

I didn't want to do anything too extravagant since we are on a budget. We figured that three year olds pretty much just want to run around anyway, so we had the party at the playground near our house. The food was simple - pizza, cupcakes, and lots of drinks.

The cupcakes were the ones where you mix a box of cake mix with a can of pumpkin and a half cup water, so they weren't too unhealthy. Well, if you ignored the sugar bomb of frosting anyway! I cut out a bunch of mustaches from black cardstock with the Silhouette and glued them to toothpicks with the glue gun. I also found some self adhesive fuzzy mustaches at the party store, so I cut them out and hot glued them to skewers too. The cardstock mustaches that weren't made into cupcake toppers were stuck on the sides of the drink cups. I made a banner too, but the wind blew it down before I could get a photo.

The boy is serious about his cupcakes.

After everyone had pizza and cupcakes, we opened presents.

Instead of the usual party favors of candy and little toys, I made shirts for each kid.

I figured, this close to Halloween they didn't need another sack of candy! The boys had ties appliqued on the front and outlined with hand embroidery, and the girls had a bow with a strand of beads to go with the party colors. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to one of the ladies in my knitting club who helped me with these on Friday night!

I made little tags thanking each guest for attending and pinned them to the bottom. The shirts were pinned to a line with clothespins so they served as decor as well.

Overall, with the exception of one guest having a nasty fall at the very end, everything went well. We are so blessed to have so many friends with whom to celebrate. It was great to see everyone and get to hang out and chat with them while our kids played.

I thought the theme was adorable -- as were the colors, decorations, favors, banners, cupcakes, and Sawyers's shirt. You call it simple, but I thought it was perfect and so beautifully put together. Thank for inviting me. I had a great time! Sawyer is so awesome, and he's lucky to have such a fabulous mom and dad. :)
