The very first time I had Nutella was when I was 15 years old and a junior in high school. My French teacher brought in croissants and Nutella for us one morning, and I was in love. Of course, now that I'm older I tend to not buy it because let's be real - this stuff is spreadable candy. The ads for it where they try to pass it off as a healthy breakfast choice crack me up.
Really? The first two ingredients in Nutella are Sugar and Palm Oil. It contains a whopping 21g of sugar in just two tablespoons! A whole Hershey Bar only has 24g!!! Women should have no more than 25g of sugar, or six teaspoons a day. Now, I'm not one of those "sugar is evil" people, but man, spread it out a little!
First of all, no one paid me to say any of this. No one sent me free product. There is no compensation of any sort being given to me for sharing this information. I just found an awesome product and I want to share it with all the friends that live in my computer!
What's the first ingredient in Justin's? HAZELNUTS. You can taste that they are too. It has a much richer, nutty taste without sacrificing any of the rich chocolate that is what draws you to this sort of treat. It's a lot less waxy looking and tasting than the Nutella, especially when you compare them side by side. There are no funky or unpronounceable ingredients (soy lecithin?) in the Justin's. In fact, you could probably find all the ingredients in it at your local Whole Foods.
Best of all? There are only seven grams of sugar in two tablespoons of the Justin's. That's a full 2/3 less than you'll find in Nutella! There's also a third less saturated fat, less than half the carbohydrates, and three times the fiber in Justin's for the exact same amount (190) of calories. I'm not going to go out and say that this stuff is super healthy, because at 16g of fat per serving, it's not. But if you want to have a chocolate hazelnut spread in your cupboard as an occasional treat, I'd be going for the Justin's over the Nutella every time.
Ooh, and did I mention that it's dairy and gluten free? Yum yum. You can buy this at Whole Foods, or like I did, at the Walmarts. It's not cheap, but then again, nothing truly good usually is.

I've seen this and wondered! Now, I'll have to try for sure. Thanks for the review!
Mmm. I'm gonna have to try some! I've had Justin's peanut butter with honey before, but not this one. Exciting times ahead!!
Nutella's kind of expensive, too. I'll definitely be switching, now. Jen gets Nutella every once in a while (she calls it "chocolate dip," and dips pretzels in it, normally) but I, too, was appalled by the sugar content. I'm so glad there's something out there that gives you the same sort of flavors without all the unnecessary junk.
Awesome review even for me, a non fan of these spreads. LOL. It made me think of my choice in peanut butter. I can't remember the name, Sara something maybe. Anyway the ingredients: Peanuts. That's it, although she does have an option that includes a bit of salt. I buy the peanut only version in smooth and can't imagine ever buying Jiff or any other pasty, sticky brand with unpronounceable ingredients and I am by no means someone who is super conscious about food ingredients I just don't understand why someone would want peanut butter that isn't just peanuts. ;)
I totally heart Nutella but I kinda figured it wasn't good for you :( I'm going to have to check this out!
Oh, but it's so much fun standing in a French hypermarket as a kid on holiday looking at not only the jars of Nutella, but also all the alternative brands, floor to ceiling chocolate baby! We always got some to bring home, but it only got out once a week to grace a pancake or waffle on a Sunday, the rest of the time my mum also went with the boring old cereal, boiled egg and soldiers or porridge route lol
