Thrifting!

Today was 50% off day at Goodwill. I know I said before that I didn't want to go on those days because they were crazy, but I've since discovered that if you go in the afternoon, it's not so bad. Here's what I got today:

Three small yellow glass plates. I have three footed sundae glasses that my mother gave me that are this exact same yellow tinted glass. I thought they would look nice set on these. I noticed they had a little mark on the bottom:

I pulled out my iPhone right there in the store and did a quick Google search for "triangle c glass." It turns out, these were made by the Cambridge Glass Company. They started to use that mark in the 1920's, but they went out of business in 1954. It looks like they made these in pink and blue as well. I just think it's so cool to find out the history of these sorts of things! These plates are over 55 years old and they only set me back fifty cents apiece.

I also picked up this lovely:

Aren't those plastic floral picks HIDEOUS??? This set me back a whopping $1.50. You may be wondering what on Earth I would want with that tacky wonderland. Check it out:

Somebody concocted this monstrosity using a beautiful lace edged milk glass dish as the base! Yeah, it's going to stink to have to dig out the green clay that it's filled with, but since the glass is in perfect condition, I think it's worth it at that price. They are usually between $5 and $10 online, and don't even come with all the awesome kitschy plastic flotsam!

I saw a ceramic egg holder at Anthropologie a few months ago that I just adored, but it was more than I was willing to pay for a passing fancy. I came across this one today for $1.50 and even though it's smaller than the Anthro one, the price difference makes it okay.

I got this cute basket for a dollar. I figure it will be good for pantry organization. I like how it has handles but they lay flat and out of the way.

I found another one of my favorite milk glass custard cups. It was fifty cents.

I found this lovely apothecary jar for two dollars. The glass is really thin so I'm actually surprised it survived being at Goodwill!

I picked up this frame for a dollar. It's a perfect circle, which I thought was kind of unusual. You know I'm spray painting this bad boy! The doily will have to go.

Bubba picked up a hard hat for fifty cents. I think I will put his name on the front with a couple of brads after I clean it.

Find of the day?

This E. O. Brody milk glass compote. My friend Susan actually bought one of these in a clear dark green glass when we were out junking last week. These seem to average about $15 online. I bought mine for FIFTY CENTS!!! How kick butt is that???

There was one senseless thrifting tragedy today though. Somehow, I managed to absentmindedly miss a vintage seltzer bottle, IN THE BOX, that was on the bottom shelf in one store. I walked right by, and not a minute later some guy snatched it up. It was marked EIGHT DOLLARS, which means he got it for four. I could have cried. He stood there and hemmed and hawed over it for about ten minutes (you know I was TOTALLY stalking him in case he set it down) before he decided to buy it.

Let this be a lesson to you - pay attention to those top and bottom shelves too! I'm so mad at myself for missing that!
