Fondant & Gum Paste Final Project

This is my final cake for the Wilton Fondant and Gum Paste class:

Not bad eh? My sides are a bit wonky, because I'm a slacker and I was icing this bad boy an hour before class. It would NOT cooperate! I also noticed that one side kinda slopes, presumably because there is too much buttercream near the bottom. I swear it was straight when I did the crumb coat, but that's what I get for slacking off and then having to hurry at the last minute.

The buttercream (my yummy recipe, not the foul Wilton one) is covered with white rolled fondant, has fondant stripes in pink and green on the sides, pink buttercream piped borders, and is topped off with gum paste daisies and leaves. The centers of the daisies are dusted with edible glitter, although, I wouldn't recommend eating anything made from gum paste. I kinda squished the shell border on one side with my hand when I was placing the daisies on top. Oops.

I think it's pretty, even with the wonky sides. Very girly. The cake itself is chocolate cake, and it is SO flipping good. I'm having a piece right now!

I scrapped this weekend. I cleaned up my space, put some new purchases away, rolled some ribbon that I've been meaning to get to, got caught up in my gratitude journal, and then did a page. I haven't scanned it yet though; I'll post it as soon as I do.
