Again with the stairs!

Yesterday when I got home, I was so tired! I really haven't been sleeping well lately, so I decided to take a little nap before I had to go fetch my husband from work. Well, he called me to come get him eventually, so I dragged my groggy behind out of bed and off I went.

As I headed out the door, I had my wallet in one hand and my keys in the other. I started walking down the stairs, and I noticed that the middle step of the first three seemed lighter in color than I remembered it. Huh, I remember thinking to myself. That's odd. So I get to the little landing and I start to go down the remainder of the steps. First step down, and I am almost down!!!

THE STUPID THING COLLAPSED!!!!

I couldn't believe it! I thank God for watching over me, because unlike last time, my hands were NOT firmly on the railing, they were full. I was also wearing flip flops. I slammed the inside of my elbow on the railing but managed to catch myself before I fell all the way. I may have also screamed and/or said a bad word. Oops.

As you can imagine, a large slab of concrete falling on another one is quite loud, so my downstairs neighbors came running out to see what happened. They came out last time when the stair cracked too, so they knew of my history with those steps. They couldn't believe it either. Twice in what, two months?

This isn't the same step that cracked last time. This is the one before it. Apparently, they decided to come out and replace more steps. They got rid of the old ones, and put up the new ones but didn't fasten them in place!!!

I went back into the apartment to get my phone. I knew the office was closed, as it was after six, but I figured I could leave an angry message or something on the emergency maintenance line. As I went in, I heard my neighbor yelling at someone. When I came back out, there was a guy from the office out there. I'd never seen him before, so I guess he was new, but he had the Aimco name tag on his shirt. I told him that this was the second time in as many months that I had almost fallen down these stairs because of something like this. He said since this was obviously an emergency he would call the maintenance supervisor right away. I told him good, and while he had him on the phone, he could ask him when they planned on coming to get rid of the honey in the walls so they could patch the hole in my roof and also when they planned to paint my wall from where they tore the hole in there and got texture splatter all over my accent wall. I told him I had talked to the other guy in the office but I might as well have talked to a wall for all the good it did. He said he would look into it.

I came home with my husband, and I got to see what their version of "fixing it right away" meant. You can't make this crap up.

Do you know how hard it is to go up and down stairs when you not only have to skip a step but go over dirty, greasy cones too? I have short legs! That's not an easy feat!

I am seriously so fed up with this apartment complex at this point. This is the third complex I have lived in since 2000 owned by this leasing company, and NEVER have I dealt with this sort of incompetence from a leasing/office/maintenance staff before. It's ridiculous. My lease isn't up until May, unfortunately, so I am stuck here. It just keeps getting worse and worse. I am going in to complain, yet again, after work today. Not that it will do any good. It didn't any of the other times.

Wholly Cow! That is insane. I can't believe that you didn't get really hurt from this incident. You should've gone to the ER and file an injury report.. I betcha that thing would be fixed by late afternoon tomorrow. I hope they come and fix it for you pronto. But like you.. I doubt it. Hopefully things will get better.

I think you should tell them to break your lease for free and come and live by me!
