I am a picky eater, and that is okay!

What part of "I don't like that" do people not understand?

This is seriously a pet peeve of mine. I am a very picky eater. This does not mean that I am not an adventurous eater. I attempt to try at least one new thing each month, and it usually ends up being some food item because I like to eat! I won't say that I dislike any given food unless I have actually tried it and truly do not like it. It bothers me when people say that they hate something that they've never even tried before, you know?

If I tell you that I do not eat a certain food, please, do not try to convince me otherwise. Do not tell me that this time it will be different, or that I am mistaken, it really is good, or that I am being silly, or anything like that. I am allowed to have my own opinions on things, and I alone will decide what I do and do not like to eat.

For example, I do not eat beans. I don't eat pinto beans, black beans, kidney beans, navy beans, ANY KIND OF BEANS!!!! (okay, jelly beans and chocolate covered espresso beans are cool I guess) I don't eat them whole, I don't eat them smooshed, I don't eat them made into any kind of sauce. That means, for example, if there is something on a menu that has BLACK BEAN SAUCE in the description, I will not eat it! No, it will NOT be good this time. YES, it will still taste like beans. NO I will NOT enjoy it. NO, I will NOT just try it already. Leave me alone!

Don't try to belittle me because I don't like certain foods. Don't tell me that I need to get out of my safety zone and try new things. I've already freaking tried it! I don't like it! I'll eat escargot (it's actually pretty good) before I eat a single bean!

Sheesh.
