The Couch

I have this couch.

We paid $80 for this couch at the Goodwill. We had originally planned to get one at Ikea, but after thinking it over (I do have a toddler and a husband, after all!) we decided to get a really cheap one for the time being. You didn't see what they did to the last couch! To say it was trashed would be an understatement. No way I was going to spend a bunch of money on something that needed to be, for lack of a better term, disposable.

It took a few months of looking, but we finally found this brown microfiber couch at Goodwill. I mustered up all my courage to give it the "sniff test" before we bought it. You can wash cushion covers, but if the cushion itself smells, there's no way to clean that! At first I was totally skeeved out by the idea of buying a couch at a thrift store, but then I realized that it really is no different than buying one off Craigslist. As long as it wasn't stinky and I could wash the covers I was good!
The $600 dollars we saved didn't hurt either. :)

So now we have this couch. It's just a plain, brown, microfiber couch, more for function than form. It's a comfy place to sit while I browse the internet and watch tv, a convenient place to look at books with my boy and fruitlessly petition my husband for a foot rub. It has no cute pillows on it; instead it usually has something crusty smeared on one cushion or another. (Luckily, microfiber is like a miracle or something because EVERYTHING cleans off this stuff with just a damp washcloth! ) My couch is a lot of things, but it is not stylish. I'll admit that I never really thought it could be.

Then I came across this photo on Layla's blog:

That's MY couch. At least, if it's not the same couch, it's awfully close. That's not the big thing though. The big thing is that it looks nice! Look at it! It has cute pillows. It looks comfortable. It's inviting.

*sigh* I need to step up my couch game!

Lol, nothing worse than couch envy ;o) No-one actually gets to sit on mine, so you're one up on me lol Half of it's covered in bears, and the other half with sewing supplies... I have a beanbag, a desk chair and a sewing chair, who actually needs to sit on the couch?! :oD
