Bowl Upgrade to Milk Glass!

It's official. Last week I was able to put my set of these:

into the Goodwill pile!

side note: Apparently these don't come in sets of four anymore, because it was nearly impossible to find a photo of them. Also, perhaps I should have sold them on eBay based on what the seller was charging for this set. Holy crud!

Anyway, this is what my cupboard looks like now:

I've replaced those clear glass bowls with beautiful, vintage milk glass. LOVE! I've also replaced my little set of four clear custard cups with ten vintage milk glass ones as well. Did you know some people try to charge as much as five dollars for ONE of those? That's insane! It took over a year to get ten, but slowly I was able to collect them and never paid more than a dollar for each one.

The larger bowls are from vintage Sunbeam Mixmasters. They used to come with one large and one small bowl. The small bowls are easier to find; in fact, my very first piece of milk glass was one of these small bowls that I got from my mother. That was my very favorite bowl and I used the heck out of it! The larger bowls take a bit more time to locate and generally run about $14 each. I got both of mine for less than $5!

I figured that I had enough of the milk glass bowls that I could get rid of all the clear glass that I've had around for the past fifteen years or so. Yes, they've served me well, but I never loved them like I love my new (old) stuff! I did keep my Pampered Chef batter bowl though, because I do love that and use it often. I also kept the little lidded PC bowls as well because we use them a lot to store small leftovers instead of plastic Tupperware-type containers. The casserole dishes/pie plate on the upper shelf are plain old Corningware, but there are two milk glass pie plates stacked in there that you can't see as well. It's pretty serious commentary on the evolution of portion sizes to see the difference in size between the vintage pie plates and the big Corningware one I bought a couple of years ago!

In addition to what you see here, there is small bowl that's about the size of two of those custard cups put together, and another small mixer bowl that's about 2/3 of the size of the small bowls from the mixer sets that is on the top shelf. It didn't nest well into the other bowls. The top shelf of this cupboard isn't very pretty so I sort of left it out of the photo. HA!

Oh, and I also wanted to share this:

I was able to snap up this lovely for a mere $3! I've never seen one even remotely close to that cheap before so I practically did the happy dance after I squealed out loud in the aisle at the Goodwill! This one is lower than my other cake stands and is marked so that you know where to cut your cake for even slices. It was made by Anchor Hocking under the Fire King label and I think I remember reading they were made in the 1950's. The gold markings are a little faded in a few spots, but overall it's in pretty good condition! This was definitely a good find.

The collection has filled out nicely in the last year, huh? :)

That's so cool. All that searching has really lead to a cool collection! And regarding dish sizes.. i have a beautiful Emile Henry Pie Plate that someone gave to me. I love it except that it's so huge a regular (**cough**Pillsbury) pie crust doesn't fit in it!
