The Ostrich Festival

Every year, the city of Chandler has a big Ostrich Festival. Even though I've lived in Chandler for almost five years now, and in the east valley even longer than that, I've never been before. We decided to remedy that situation today. The boy got slathered in sunblock, given a hat and sunglasses, and we were on our way!

Bubba had lots of fun. He watched dogs long jump off a "dock,"
ran around in a field to burn off some steam,

watched freaky little airplanes flying (very low!) overhead,

tasted our very first ostrich burger (I was not impressed, but the boy liked it!),

got a little stuffed ostrich as a souvenir,

got to see a grinning baboon,

saw rides that had once been on Neverland Ranch,

and admired lots of bright lights and loud noises from the rides when it started to get dark.

We missed the ostrich races though because some woman was trying to give us a sales pitch about some vacation thing. She wanted us to give her $20 as a "reservation fee" to go watch some presentation next weekend up in Scottsdale and in return we would supposedly get two free airline tickets to anywhere in the country that Southwest flies. She swore it was fully refundable, but I didn't think so! Sheesh!

We also shared a fantastically good polish sausage, which Bubba also really enjoyed. I was surprised because it was a little bit spicy, but he was really into it. There was also some of that great but overpriced festival lemonade. We were strong and resisted the funnel cakes.

While we were hanging out in the grass waiting for my husband to return with our burger (which was just okay - you could tell that the meat itself is really bland. It just tasted like whatever random herb/spice mixture they used to season it. It's not that it was bad, but just that there are better tasting things out there I guess.

You ever have one of those blog posts where you just don't know how it should end? Um, yeah. This is one of those. :)

That's so cool that you went! I keep thinking I should or that I want to and then I don't. Looks like a fun family day. It's been so nice outside! It's cool you all got to get out together. Maybe I'll make it next year! :)
