Hooray! It's October!

It feels like I've been waiting FOREVER for October to get here!

Of course, for the obvious reasons (17 more days until my due date!!!) as well as for the usual reasons (cooler weather, Halloween, the state fair). People are putting up fall decorations, even though we're still hitting 100 stupid degrees every day. I actually complained that I was chilly last night and my husband did a little happy dance all the way to the thermostat. I gave the little blogaroonie a festive makeover in honor of the upcoming holiday. I've baked with pumpkins and apples the last two weekends in a row. This is SUCH a good time of year!

While reading all my blogs this morning, there were multiple people talking about this project that Stacy Julian has up on her blog today. It's called Give Yourself a Present. Basically, you take ten-twelve photos that represent your life TODAY, put them in a mini album (she used the 3" Bazzill mono minis), and add a little journaling. Very simple. Then you put it somewhere that you can see it often, your purse, your nightstand, etc, and look at it everytime you come across it. In a year, you will make a scrapbook page documenting the experiment. There are links to other bloggers at the end of the post so you can see their mini books.

Now, I don't know about looking at it all the time, or even making the layout in a year (we'll see!), but I was thinking, how great to just document ONE NORMAL DAY at this point in my life, right when EVERYTHING is going to change in a big big way really soon? Ali Edwards is doing A Week in the Life, but to be completely honest with you, that's too big of a commitment for me right now. I think one day I can handle.

As for the Bazzill mini book - well, if you have a scrap of 12" x 3" cardstock or heavy patterned paper that you like, you don't even need to go out and buy one. They're so easy to make it's ridiculous. I used to teach a class on a trio of mini-books, back before Bazzill even made those things (Kolo used to have a version though) and that was one of them. They're great instead of gift tags, for those super special gifts, you know? You can also make them with Christmas photos (a book for each year) and hang them on the tree. Lots of great uses! I think I'll make one tonight and post a tutorial so if you want to do it, you can without having to go buy one.

I was thinking about taking my photos tomorrow, since today is more than halfway over already. Better late than never! Then I thought about it, and I have taken some fun photos in the last 2-3 weeks that would be a good documentation of my life right now too, so I may just use those. Maybe I'll do a combo of the two, we'll see!

I have to say, I'm kind of excited about this!
