Valentines and Drag Queens

Friday, I got out of bed at 2:00 pm. Now, before you start thinking, "MAN what a LAZY SLOB that Miss M is!" let me share that I didn't go to bed until 5:00 that morning.

Yes folks, once again I've screwed up my sleep schedule!

I had to turn in some scrapbook pages for a client at 11:00 on Saturday morning, up in Scottsdale. That's about a 40 minute drive from here. Figuring I'd need to comb my hair and brush my teeth, that meant my deadline was 10:00 am.

Did I mention I've had almost 2 months to do these, and I had yet to start?

Yeah, I'm a slacker. In fact, I didn't even get started until about 2:30 am, because I started chatting with my mother in law on line. She's a night owl like me. I scrapbooked for 7 hours straight, and finished all the photos, ending up with twelve 12 x 12 pages. They were really cute too. I liked this bunch of pages better than the last bunch I gave her. They were all pictures from the Renaissance Faire they hold here every year. Fun times.

I made my meeting on time, got some new stuff to work on, and then we headed to the mall. I needed some pants that weren't jeans, and New York & Company (formerly Lerner NY) was having a buy one, get one for $15 sale. Well, turns out that mall didn't have an NY & Co. We did get my husband some cologne while we were there. I had never bought anything at Neiman Marcus before (girl from the ghetto, hello!) so I thought to myself, Self, what a great opportunity! I learned that Neiman's doesn't take Visa. Your choices there are Cash, AMEX, check (???) or Neiman's card. Since neither of us had any of those, we had to go find an ATM and then come back. How embarrasing! The saleslady was nice though, and gave me a whole mess of perfume samples, so it was all good.

My friend was waiting for me when I got home, and we decided to head to the mall close to my house to check out the NY & Co there. I managed to score 2 pairs of the comfiest pants ever for only $53 after tax. Kick butt! We had lunch, visited the puppy store, played with glitter at Sephora, and then decided to head to Nordy's so I could find some concealer at the MAC counter.

We get there, and I get the most adorable man to help me. He finds me the perfect color, and then he proceeds to find one for my friend too. I tell her, oooh, we should totally have them do our makeup so we look like drag queens! You know how MAC is kinda famous for those over the top makeup looks and all. She's all for it, and the guy helping us is like really? You want to look like drag queens?

Turns out, he was an ex drag queen!!! Can you believe it? We were there for 3 1/2 hours for him to do our makeup. It was incredible the amount of stuff on my face. Three different foundations, 4 different powders, 3 different eyeshadows, creme liner, brow pencil, 2 different lipsticks, 2 different glosses, bronzer, 2 different colors of rouge, and then he topped it all off with these amazing fake eyelashes!

(Yes, I'm wearing clothes. The corset is strapless)

You ever want to get people to stare at you, get your makeup done drag style. I had to go to the bathroom while my friend was getting hers done, and it was funny to see people stare. Some tried to pretend that they weren't, some did double takes like in a cartoon or something, and some just openly stared. It really makes you realize how much guts it takes for these guys to go out dressed like this in public. I'm a woman! I'm supposed to wear makeup! It just makes me admire them that much more for their courage.

Well, since we were all done up, we couldn't just waste it on staying home, so we grabbed her boyfriend and headed out to watch, what else, the local drag show! My husband stayed home, because he's not really into that sort of thing. We dressed up (I wore my corset) and it was really fun. I learned that the corset is more of a standing up item of clothing. While I was just standing I could jump up and down, wave my arms wildly over my head, and bend over without anything falling out of it, if you know what I mean. Apparently, sitting pushes the boning up, causing the bra cups to kinda sag/flip forward. I may have accidentally flashed someone... oops.

After the show, we realized that we never did eat dinner, so it was off to Taco Bell. We stopped at a park to eat and then goofed off on the playground. You ever run in the sand and up play equipment in heels before? It's kinda scary. There was a fireman's pole there, so I took the opportunity to try some of the pole dancing spins we learned at the party. Damned if I couldn't do each one practically perfectly. I didn't bang my knee once! It was awesome, and totally makes me want to do it again.

When we got home, I wasn't sleepy at all, so I stayed up and played on the computer. I didn't end up going to bed until about 3:30 am, which meant that I had been up for almost 33 hours straight. That's kinda crazy. I slept today (okay, yesterday I guess technically) until 4:00 pm, I was so tired. One day I'll have all this back right.

One last thing... I saw this on Carrie's blog (Eats Crayons) and I wanted one too. I know I have readers that just lurk, and don't leave comments. It always amazes me when someone is like, oh yeah, I read your blog! I made myself a Valentine, see?

If you read this, even if you lurk and don't usually leave comments, please leave me a Valentine! You can do it anonymously, if you like, but I'd like it if you left a name so I can see who reads this.

Thanks!

How hilariously fun! I don't think we have shows like that here in Nashvegas, but I think it would be so much fun to go see!
