Twelve of 12 - November 2012

The twelfth of each month keeps rolling around faster and faster, it seems.  Wasn't it just the twelfth of October last week?  UGH.  No, a week ago would be when I blogged last.  WHOOPS!

Here are the photos from my day.

1. Get up and pump.  This is how the baby watched me the whole time.

2.  Bubba went to a birthday party yesterday and one of the things in his goody bag was one of those little army guys with a parachute.  He talked his dad into taking it outside to show him how to use it.

3. Preschooler lunch.  He prefers his fruit cocktail with a seafood fork, and his PB&J cut into puzzle pieces.  Carrots are also about a million times more edible when cut into star shapes.

4.  Trying to work outside my baby color palette comfort zone of pink, yellow and green.  I picked up this Carter's top at the Goodwill last week and I paired it with a long sleeved white onesie and baby jeggings.  I think baby jeggings are flipping hilarious.

5.  This is the preferred activity these days.  Apparently, it's Pet Cassidy's birthday and she's turning three.

6.  No cubicle can beat this!  We don't like to let the baby sleep on our bed, especially unsupervised, but sometimes that's where she sleeps best.  My husband was working from home so he kept her company.

7.  I gave up on trying  to come up with an idea for a seasonal mantel and the will to execute it.  Thank goodness for a well stocked decor/accessory closet!  This may end up being my Christmas display too.  Hey - it has red and green!  HA!

8.  Grandma is in town for a few days with my husband's aunt so we got together for dinner.  You know you have to dress up when you see your Grandma, right?

 9.  Kelly was glad to see her too.  We had dinner at Joe's Real BBQ.  No one wants to eat at a chain when they're on vacation!

10.  After dinner, we headed across the street to Liberty Market and got some dessert to go.

11.  We headed back to our house to have dessert and coffee.  This was Baby Doll's outfit for the evening.  This kid had ruffles on top of frills on top of ribbon on top of lace surrounding her.  She looked like a wedding cake!

12.  Bubba talked his grandma and Aunt Susie into a few games of Candy Land.  I had to go into the other room to pump, but it sounded like they had a seriously cutthroat game going on out there!  It was so sad when they told him they had to leave and he started to cry because he didn't want Grandma to go.

I wish we lived closer to family.  :(  Especially with Thanksgiving coming up.

Twelve of 12 - August 2012

Another twelfth has come and gone!  I did something a little different this time - I kept a document open using the Notes app on my phone and made note of the times I took my pictures, along with my thoughts on them at the time.

7:30 - Out of bed, pump and drink water. Chat with husband while he attempts to feed baby who does not really want her bottle. She's not done sleeping! Neither was I; went back to sleep at about 8:30. When you go to bed at about two in the morning, a 7:30 is a little bit early to start the day!

Noon - Woke up. The living room looks like a hurricane hit it. What happened??? My husband was feeding baby. I pumped and drank water.

1:00 - Time for breakfast! Ham and eggs on a sandwich thin and another glass of water. This is one of those reusable Cosco cups they sell at Joann.  I think they hold either 20 or 24 ounces of water.

2:00 - Tummy time for Kelly, another glass of water for me.

3:30 - Pumping, the new Ikea catalog (finally!!!), and more water.  It's funny - last month there were a couple of weeks where I was sure everyone in America had gotten an Ikea catalog but me.  Turns out, my husband just went a really long time without checking the mail.  I'm sure our mailman hates us.

5:00 - This is what happens when the husband makes me watch the Olympics all afternoon. Well played, McDonald's. I am having another water in addition to the sweet tea with this though, so at least that is healthy!

6:30 - Making hair bows! While I love all the bows I made during my last hair bow making session, most of my "BFBs" (big effing bows) were a little too big for my wee babe's head.  I reworked the measurements and made some smaller ones that are more to scale for her head.  They're still big - just not as big.  I'm still working on my drinks from last photo at this point.

8:30 - The Olympic closing ceremony, pumping, and more water. The first photo with the closing ceremony graphic took almost an hour to catch, when my husband finally decided to inform me that the TV did have a freeze screen function.  Duh.

8:15 - Favorite hairbow today. Oh, and another glass of water.

9:30 - True story: Bubba was running in the house (definitely against the rules, btw) and totally faceplanted against the arm of the couch hard enough to knock him backwards onto his behind. When my husband asked him what the heck he was doing, the boy informed his father that "the couch got in my way."  He was incredibly pleased when I wanted to photograph his "ouch."  (We don't have owies or booboos in our house.)

10:00 - Dinner! Tonight was leftover night.  I had chicken and leek stroganoff. Exciting! Actually, I know it doesn't look like much but it's incredibly good.  The recipe is out of Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution cookbook.  I had more water too.

10:45 - Cleaning up my mess a bit. This is my box o' floss. You guessed it - I'm also having another glass of water!

I was wondering how many glasses of water I had in a day, so I figured this would be a good way to keep track.  I counted ten of those large glasses of ice water, and one 32 ounce iced tea.  I guess no one can accuse me of not being hydrated!  Good thing too, since the high tomorrow is supposed to be 115 degrees, a whole two degrees cooler than today.  Woo flipping hoo.

Twelve of 12 - July 2012

I haven't posted 12 of Twelve photos on ye olde blog for a few months.  I guess it's because I'd been doing a decent job of scrapbooking them and the last few months... well, not so good.  Since I'm not anywhere near getting caught up on my Project Life, let alone my 12 of Twelve pages, I figured I'd just post the photos.  I have been taking the photos at least!

Here's my day.

1.  It's like we don't have any beds in this house!  I got up this morning to go pump and this was the sight that greeted me.  Greeted me... that sounds wrong.  I swear I've lost brain cells since getting pregnant.

2.  Bubba helped keep his little sister entertained while I washed bottles and pump parts.

3.  Chillin' on the couch with my girl.

4.  And so, the freezer filling has begun.  I have four gallon-sized Ziploc bags in there, each containing ten smaller Lansinoh milk storage bags that each hold between six and seven ounces of breast milk.  I'm guessing that's almost 300 ounces so far?  Add to that the fact that baby girl is taking four ounces on average per meal (seven or eight meals a day), and I've also snuck some to Bubba in his chocolate milk here and there... well, THAT is why I'm losing weight so well.  The sick part is that if I pump and only get 7 or 8 ounces, I get a little panicky that I didn't make enough because with Bubba I was getting between ten and fifteen ounces a session.  That's every three hours.

I have issues.

Also - is "snuck" a word?  Spell check is saying no, but "sneaked" sounds wrong.  I miss those brain cells...

5.  I didn't expect to have to be sorting through clothes that don't fit so soon!  This is a three month onesie.  I've got a nice little pile of stuff that already doesn't fit.  Bubba didn't fit into three month stuff until he was three months old.

Wild.

6.  Bubba surveys the carnage.

He had them all lined up neatly at one point.  I noticed and made a note to take a photo, but when I came back to do so, they looked like this.  The boy works swiftly when he is so inclined.

7.  What I listened to all day.  Seriously, if you haven't heard this guy, do yourself a favor and look him up on YouTube.  It's just so good.  My husband came home one day and told me I had to listen to him because he thought I'd like it.  He was right.  That album was $9 well spent.

8.  I had Italian ice when I was in the hospital, and I had forgotten how good it was!  I picked up a box when I was at Target the other night.  Bubba and I had some today for a snack.

9.  And then we had these after lunch for another snack.  I'm terrible.  I like to pick out all the chocolate ones first, because they're my favorite.  Unfortunately Bubba has noticed that I do this and now he tries to scam all my  chocolate bunnies before I can get to them.  Booger.

10.  The "in and out" log. Someone wasn't very hungry today, and someone else did a poor job of recording diapers before I got out of bed.

11.  It's monsoon season!  That means that every day there's a "slight chance" of rain in the forecast, and the mantra "it's a dry heat" no longer applies.  At about five or six in the evening, the wind will start to pick up, the sky will get dark, and you can smell the moisture in the air.  Now - will it rain?  It's anyone's guess, really.  Sometimes it will in one part of town, but not another.  Sometimes the rain won't come until after dark.  Sometimes we'll just get a big dust storm.  You never really know.

12.  Dinner!  We had Cilantro Lime Chicken that I prepped a few weeks ago and froze along with fresh green beans and steamed rice that my husband prepared.  Please note the binky and sippy cup that also snuck (???) their way into this photo.

This is my life right now.  :)

Twelve of 12 - April 2012

I did a much better job getting all twelve of my photos done for April, with the exception of the fact that I didn't do anything with them until four days before May's twelve of twelve was to be done.  WHOOPS!  I'm telling you folks - I'm the worst slacker lately.  These photos have been printed for a couple of weeks now and just sitting on my desk.

Part of my problem is that my printer ran out of ink AGAIN.  It has an issue where it won't print without leaving a streaky mess all over your page unless you clean the heads and run a nozzle check.  You have to do this every single time you print.  That wastes a LOT of ink.  Cartridges are about $17 each, and it takes SIX FREAKING CARTRIDGES.  We decided to just replace it instead of burning through all that ink, but other stuff like car registration and breast pumps keep coming first.  C'est la vie.

I finally decided to just do my journaling on the typewriter, so it's nice and laden with typos.  Computers have spoiled us.

Click any photo to enlarge.  Supplies - Bazzill Basics cardstock, American Crafts Thickers, Making Memories tiny glitter letter stickers,  Heidi Swapp number tape, SMASH washi tape, font on photos is Susie's Hand, journaling done on my Lettera 22.

I went and sorted out my photos already before I posted like a dummy.  Instead of trying to find them in all their respective folders, I just am putting the files I sent to the printer on here.  That's why there are two at a time.  I love that the Instagram photos are already perfect squares.  It makes laying it all out that much easier.
1.  My favorite part of the day - waking up to Bubba kisses.  2.  The wildflowers I planted last year are finally blooming.  They started this week.

3.  Snack time!  4.  My backyard garden.  I didn't plant much this year.  I have carrots and green onions, plus marigolds for pest control.  The spinach and arugula are long gone.
5.  Bubba bumped his nose and immediately requested an ice pack.  This kid LOVES an ice pack.  6.  We call this "Yucky Spaghetti."  Usually I make my sauce from scratch with lots of veggies and topped with freshly grated parmigiano reggiano.  This is made with Ragu from a jar and loads of that "Parmesan" cheese powder from the green can.  SO GROSS, but a total pregnancy craving because it's just how my mom used to make it.

7.  Another pregnancy craving.  8.  Fun stuff in the mail!

9.  More flowers that I planted last year that waited until this year to bloom.  10.  Move over Diego!  Bubba's found Dora and his Spanish vocabulary has grown like crazy.

11. Bubba put all the dark colored jelly beans that he decided were gross in an egg for his dad.  HA!  12.  Bedtime!  His dad is reading him a story about a baby who is bored inside its mother's womb.  This has been a big favorite lately.

And there you go!  Now I'm all ready to take this month's round of photos on Saturday!

Twelve of 12 - March 2012

Or should I say, nine of twelve?  I didn't really get through all twelve this month because my time was pretty evenly split between the sofa and the kitchen table where I worked on a quilt.  There's just not a whole lot of which to take photos in that small of an area!

Here's what I did get:

1.  After three years of loving my old iPhone 3G, I finally upgraded.  My husband insisted I upgrade when we got our tax refund because the old one had been acting up and running slow.  The new one took me almost SEVEN FREAKING HOURS to get all set up, but oh, it's worth it.  It's super fast - even faster than my laptop, I swear - and it can hold all my music now.  LOVE.

Now I just need to take it to get some Ghost Armor (did it on the last one - worth every penny) and a case.

2.  I did a bit of crafting for Miss Kelly.  I started a quilt top on Saturday for a friend and made an error cutting my fabric.  That meant I ended up TWO four inch squares short for my final count.  GRR!!!  I had to run back to the store to grab more of that fabric.  While I was there, I figured since the sewing machine was out I'd make some burp cloths for my girl too.

I was able to find some of the regular cloth diapers with the padding in the middle this time, as opposed to the flat ones that I used for Bubba's burp cloths.  That saved me some work.  I did applique her initial to them using some Steam-A-Seam and then hand embroidered the borders of those.

3.  Said quilt top, finished and ready to be basted.  I embroidered the baby's name on the bottom corner.

4.  I'm a quilting dinosaur.  I still pin baste.  I know people love the spray basting stuff, but I don't trust it.

5.  Trying to get my apps organized.  After I got everything on to the new phone, I pulled all the apps off my old one, leaving just the toddler and baby apps, plus any kid friendly games, behind.  Then I made a few playlists for the boy so that it's only Bubba-friendly music on there. My husband suggested adding the Netflix app so he could watch Go, Diego, Go on there too.  Finally, I hid all the apps that I couldn't delete in a folder on the last screen.

My three year old now has his own iPhone.  True, it's just a glorified iPod at this point, but still.  I never thought I'd see the day.

6.  Bubba's getting better at building his own train tracks, but not so great at making them loop.  As a result, it's not uncommon to find long, snake-like tracks going from one end of a room to the other these days.

7.  We have a rule in our house:  No bandaids unless you're bleeding.  I found this has cut down on the bandaid use considerably, because you know how little kids are with those things.  Well, this means that the second there's any kind of teeny cut with blood, no matter how slight, Bubba actually gets excited because it means he gets to have a bandaid.  In a way, it's sort of cool because it means he doesn't freak out as bad when he does cut himself though!

8.  Since I spent a good portion of yesterday in pain (quilting is hard on a pregnant back!) dinner was sort of a mish mash of self serve options.  I had the last of the fish sticks that were in the freezer.  Bubba had a few too, plus some macaroni and cheese (gag) and a WHOLE (yay!) banana.  We've been giving him lollipops to help with his cough since cough drops are still a choking hazard at this point.

9.  I finished the quilt!  How cute are those elephants on the flannel backing?  I picked two different sets of fabric at the fabric store, then let my husband decide which set I'd make into the quilt.  He also picked the binding.  It was between chocolate brown and pink, and he went with pink.  Also - I'm getting better at those mitered corners on my binding.  Kick butt.

I'm usually a little wary of giving homemade gifts, because too many people still think you're being cheap when you give hand made.  Trust me, for the money I spent on supplies I could have easily picked up some trinket at Babies R Us and had money left over!  That doesn't even take into account the time and effort put into something like this.  Therefore, I only give them to people I really like, and who I know will appreciate them.

Since I didn't get all twelve photos this month, and three of the nine that I did get were of the quilt, I decided to skip scrapping them this month.  I'll incorporate some of the photos into my Project Life pages instead.  I finally got an album for those!  Yay!  Hobby Lobby had the nice American Crafts albums on clearance for $12 so I grabbed a pretty lime green one.
