Play It Again, Miss M!

Yesterday I received one of the most amazing gifts I've ever been given in my life.

I mentioned a few days ago that I had been wanting a piano, but it was not in the budget. Even for a used one, they're several hundred dollars. Usually.

Enter my auction loving friend Suzy. She saw this and when she realized it was going to sell for just over a hundred bucks, she decided to go ahead and buy it.

For me.

How lucky am I?
I love that they have the inspectors sign their names to the back. I also love that I'm blessed enough to have such an amazing friend.

When I told my husband about it, his first question was his usual question when I bring home stuff - "Where are you going to put it?" I suppose this was a very valid question considering that we just put a big bookshelf in the space where I was planning on putting my future piano. That bookshelf isn't fitting anywhere else in this house either.

Quickly my mind started to race. Where was this thing going to go? Then I got it! It would fit perfectly in front of the window of my scrap room. I just had to move the small shelf that was there and relocate a few things. No sweat.

Well, a little bit of sweat. Pianos are freaking HEAVY. Can you believe Suzy fit it in the back of a Rav4???

The boy is completely enamored of it. Joke's on him; let's see how much he likes it in a few years when he has to take piano lessons! BWA HA HA HA HA!!!

While I was making dinner, the boys were testing it out. As my husband picked out "Heart and Soul," Bubba was belting "Happy Birthday" at the top of his lungs.

Happy indeed. :)

That's cool! My mom was a pianist and when she died I got her piano. It's in my living room right now. I can't wait for the girls to start lessons (which my mom was planning on them starting around age 4). I love pianos!

Do you play?

Hi Sara, you don't know me but I ran across your blog sometime ago from my daughter-in-laws (Shannon Smith) blog and have enjoyed following you. Your blog is fabulous, funny & refreshing so I'll take this opportunity to say thanks for sharing your everyday life experiences. Anyways, I was just reading your post about the piano and saw that you have placed it in front of a window. I'll let you google it but we have owned a piano and now a grand for many years and we've always been told to never ever place them in front of a window/direct sun light. Here is just a little news clip I found on Internet:

Pianos do not like changes in temperature and humidity. Where you place the piano in your home makes a difference in how well it plays and sounds. Pianos do best in the center of a room located out of direct sunlight and away from air vents. Inside walls are better than outside walls for piano placement. Putting your piano in front of a window, over or under an air vent, or where it receives direct sunlight places your instrument and your tuning in jeopardy...

Keep blogging!
