The Feed Warehouse

Sure, anyone can place a vinyl sticker reading "PANTRY" on the wall over their pantry doors, but you know me. I have to be different.

I actually got the idea from Tuesdays With Dorie. She has the most awesome vintage version of this hanging in her kitchen, and it's HUGE. I didn't have room for that, so this was my compromise.

The sign started off life (for me, anyway) as an ugly wooden sign that read "at home find comfort and rest." While that is a lovely sentiment, it's not me. Also, it was painted the flattest, ugliest brown ever. The whole thing was brown, even the frame. The lettering was black so it didn't show up very well either. Still, for $3 at the Goodwill, I knew I could do something with it.

It sat in my craft room for months until I realized it would be perfect for the pantry. I gave it an all over base coat of off white acrylic paint, adding a second coat to the middle part. I then painted the edges a brilliant turquoise. Finally, I used tracing paper to draw the lettering and hand painted it with a tiny paintbrush. After it had been left to dry overnight, I hit it with some sandpaper to make it look kind of old and to tone down the blue. I sanded more in a few areas of the frame so that the old brown would peek through.

I love the way this turned out! It makes me smile every time I look at it.
