An Austin Wedding

We saw this mural on a wall in the morning after breakfast one day, so I had to take a picture. I was sort of bummed that we never came across the Daniel Johnston mural though.

Bubba tried out the bed in his grandma's hotel room. She stayed at the Hotel San Jose. They had these really cool, minimal, zen type rooms with fantastic concrete floors and Bertoia chairs tucked into corners. They had the fanciest stuff in the minibar too. I wish I had taken a photo of it. The door to the bathroom was a giant one hanging on a track. So cool.

I loved the curled up fronds on this fern in front of the hotel. I can't remember if it was in front of her hotel or in front of the Austin Hotel down the street.

We had dinner here the night before the wedding. It was a great casual way to meet everyone before the big day. I ate a meal comprised of several different types of meat. The only thing I ate besides meat was the slice of bread I shared with the baby. It was kind of strange, but VERY good.

This was also where they passed out the best wedding favors ever, so not to have to deal with it the next day. Pretty clever.

The wedding was held in the courtyard of a club in downtown Austin. It was really nice. After the ceremony, the party moved upstairs to a private loft above the club. In order to get in and out of the venue, you had to go back down those stairs and cut across the courtyard of the bar to get to the parking lot. The next day when I saw on Twitter that someone I follow who was in Austin as well that weekend saw a baby in a bar, I had to wonder if it was my baby. If so, I had a good excuse! LOL!

Right after the ceremony - the new Mr & Mrs! I made the bouquet. She wanted a bouquet made from succulents, so when they were in town over Christmas we went to the wholesale faux flower shop where she picked out a few different faux hen and chicks and also the leaves that were around the edges. I added some Spanish moss and lots of hot glue to the mix and came up with this. I wrapped the handle with terra cotta satin ribbon and lots of little teal blue pearl head pins down the back. I don't think it came out half bad for my first attempt at something like this!

The Bubs was looking mighty dapper, if I do say so myself.

He had no problem keeping himself occupied before the ceremony started.

There were lots of places to use as racetracks for his little cars.

One of the other guests had a little girl who was two months older than Bubba. She was just the cutest thing!

He tortured her by offering her his cars, and then when she would finally reach out to take one, he'd snatch it back. My son is a booger.

The groom's brother is a set designer for movies and plays, and he did the backdrop for the ceremony. It was really cool! He filled it with all sorts of small succulents that they bought the day before. My sister in law told me that he had actually listed it on Craigslist that morning, and someone bought it before the wedding even happened. Not too shabby!

I loved the bar inside the loft. This is a terrible photo, but you get the idea.

The wedding was awesome. Simple, but fun, which are the best kinds if you ask me. We had heavy hors d'oeuvres instead of a sit down dinner, and everything was delicious. The loft space had comfy leather couches and matching ottomans which were very handy when some little man decided to take a nap on my shoulder. There were great speeches (including a fantastic one where a friend read an email that my sister in law sent her when she first met the groom over three years ago) and dancing and great conversations.

I'm so happy that we were able to take part in their special day and meet all their friends and relations!
