2010 Goal Check-in

I set a lot of goals for 2010, and to keep myself honest, I thought I'd do what my blog friend Sam does and do a monthly check in. It's a great way to make sure that those goals don't get forgotten in a few months and I stick to working towards them.

*I want to try and remember to call my child by his ACTUAL name instead of Bubba. It's so embarrassing when people start talking to "Sawyer" and he doesn't respond because he has no idea who "Sawyer" is!
Um... I suck. I called him Sawyer more than I have been, but he was still Bubba most of the time. Must work on this.
*I want to try to eat less and move more. I will NOT be going on a diet. I decided I love food too much. I also will not be implementing a formal workout plan. Moving will involve cleaning house and taking the baby to the park, among other things.
Massive FAIL. I have been cleaning more, and we went on a few walks, but I'm not going to kid myself here. Also, it's hard to eat less when you just learned how to make tortillas. In the interest of full disclosure, I probably ate more tortillas in the past two weeks than I did all of last year. Yikes.
*I want to quit making excuses and drag my lazy butt out of bed on Sundays to go to church.
Doing well on this one. I did skip mass last Sunday because I wasn't feeling well, and if I was coming down with something I didn't need to be breathing it on a bunch of old people. That's not very nice.
*I want to pick one of my many cookbooks each month and make a new-never-tried-it-before recipe each week from it.
I didn't pick a cookbook, but I did make some new recipes this month. I made homemade gnocchi, baked ziti, truffled parmesan popcorn, and of course, the aforementioned tortillas. I did make a Dutch-style Pork Chop recipe from this ancient Amy Vanderbilt cookbook I picked up at a used bookstore a couple of weeks ago. (Original 1961 copy, illustrated by Andrew Warhol, haha!) I also made chicken stock in the crockpot for the first time, which was a total lightbulb/duh moment for me. I'll definitely be doing it that way from now on.
*I want to take catechism classes and do my first communion and confirmation.
Started these!
*I want to eat out/eat processed foods less. We've been doing better about this than we were before, but we could do better.
We've really cut back on this. Partly because we're pretty broke, and partly because I'm trying to use up stuff we have instead of bringing new stuff in. I don't know how people have six month supplies of food laid by, because old food just skeeves me out! Yuck!
*I want to get the baby baptized.
This won't happen until later in the year. Maybe May or June?
*I want to have people over for dinner more often. Maybe a board game after? Is that weird?
No guests this month. I took dinner to someone else's house though.
*I want to try one new thing (beside the cookbook goal) each month. It could be a new food, a new craft, a new life experience - it doesn't matter, as long as I've never done it before. Then, I have to blog about it.
Crap. I don't think I did this one at all.
*And of course, I want to work on incorporating domesticity into my life
I've gotten a decent start! :)

Yay! Monthly updates! :) That's cool.

You have some great goals here. The thing about a lot of them is that they're lifestyle goals (like moving more, eating less) and those don't happen overnight. Just the fact that you're putting that intention into your head is powerful, and if you want it and are ready for it, it'll happen. Good for you! Sounds like you made some good progress on these.

What awesome goals, I almost want to steal your list! ABSOLUTELY am stealing the having people over for dinner and board games. Sounds fun!
