Happy Earth Day!

Today, you get a rant. Or a bunch of mini rants. I'm going to file this under Things I Can't Believe.

#1. People who bring sick kids to playdates.

If you "think he's coming down with something" and you yourself are sniffling and WIPING YOUR NOSE WITH YOUR BARE HANDS, stay home!!! Not only is it gross to see a kid running around with a combo of crusty snot on their upper lip and liquid snot running down their face, it's totally unsanitary. Do you think the rest of us want to subject our own kids to being sick if we don't have to? Have a little consideration and common sense, okay?

While we're at it, can people stop sneezing and coughing into their bare hands? I mean, I really do appreciate the effort you're making of covering your mouth, but at the same time, you're going to touch EVERYTHING with those same, now covered in germs, hands, and that's just unsanitary. Please use the inside of your elbow, or even better, walk away from everyone, bend over, and sneeze into the ground. Unless babies are going to crawl there. Then go somewhere else. Or stay home. Whatever.

Thanks.

#2. My oatmeal is 11 points.

(look! I'm sort of figuring out how to get a shallow depth of field with my point and shoot. Kick butt!)

My friend started Weight Watchers this week, and in a show of support for her I decided to start doing it too. I'm not going to meetings or anything like that, because I'm poor (ha ha says the girl who is showing you a photo of her Whole Foods oatmeal) but since I've gone before I have all the materials and I know what I need to do. I also don't hate the fact that I get an extra 12 points a day because I'm breastfeeding. Kick butt! I've lost the baby weight, now I need to lose the french fries and ice cream weight.

But back to the rant: steel cut oats...flax seed meal...1% milk...this is supposed to be healthy! WW is flawed!!! Too many times things like this, with the healthy whole grains are so high in points that people end up avoiding them and instead, eating crap like crackers where you can have a bunch for 2 points. I'm sure any nutritionist would agree with me on this one. I just don't see the point in trying to get skinny at any cost without being healthy. I can be unhealthy while fat, and still get ice cream and french fries to boot, you know?

#3. The baby decided he didn't like his cereal anymore.

You've been eating this kind for almost a month, and eating "solids" for twice that long. Now you're gonna clam up that little mouth tighter than Fort Knox? And the pediatrician says I have to do this three times a day now???

I got it when he did it with the peas, I could understand that. But oatmeal with mixed fruit? Sheesh.

#4. That aluminum water bottle doesn't make my water taste metallic after all.

I resisted using these because I could not see how the water would not taste like metal after sitting in a metal bottle for an hour or more. I have a really sensitive sense of taste, especially when it comes to water, so I wasn't about to pay $15-$20 for a bottle only to hate it after using it once. Then those nice folks at gDiapers sent me one, and now I'm sold. I only wish it kept the water cold longer. Either way, I feel good about having ditched the bottled water habit, between this and the PUR filter. I don't want to be one of those people who claims to care about the environment just because they recycle, but meanwhile are using a plastic bottles and diapering in disposables, you know?

Ooh, for fun: Bottles of Water It's funny because it's true. Sorta.
BTW, check out what Bubba was doing while I was trying to get that shot of the water bottle:
I won't lie. It was a gross mess! LOL!

It's amazing what they can get into within the span of 1 minute! Wait until he starts crawling and walking!!

I'm with you on the sick kids thing. We didn't go on playdates for the first 3 months of the year b/c we were all sick. I'm so excited to be free again!

Love love love the picture of Sawyer refusing his cereal. Of course, it's funny because it's not my child! I haven't found anything she won't eat. DD would probably eat dirt if I spooned it to her. ;)

I am totally sold on those reuseable bottles, too. The non-toxic kind like this. I occassionally buy a drink when I'm out, and when I don't have a reuseable to put it in, I feel pretty bad. It's still helped to cut down tremendously on the trash/recycling that I produce. And they don't change the taste of water. Totally agree.

How long is the zoom on your p&s? I find that when I zoom all the way in (10x on mine) it makes a great shallow depth of field.
