Friday

As I mentioned earlier, I joined a mom's meetup group. Several people that I know who have young children recommended that I look for one after the baby was born. Since he's a little bit older now, and we're getting into more of a predictable routine, I figured it was time. I went to meetup.com and started browsing through the mom groups in my area. I actually found one for first time moms in their 20s and 30s in my area of town who had babies born between May 2008 and May 2009.

Perfect.

So, I joined, and the next meetup was at the organizer's house on Friday. Everyone was supposed to bring something to share, so I signed up for cookies. Obviously, being the slacker that I am, I waited until the last minute and did them Thursday night. I knew there was no way royal icing would dry by morning, so I decided to try something I hadn't done before - icing them with fondant.

Oh. My. God. This is my new favorite way to decorate sugar cookies. It's so easy! You just roll out the fondant and cut it with whatever cookie cutter you used to cut the cookie in the first place. That way it's a perfect fit! I did simple round cookies because I was short on time, but I did go ahead and dust them with a bit of the edible glitter and added a border with a little royal icing. They came out so pretty:

(stupid Blogger turning my pictures sideways!!!)

The meetup itself went really well. All the women seem really nice and the conversation was very busy and carried well. It was easy to fit in and take part without feeling like the awkward new kid. Bubba was kind of in shock I think, because he hadn't ever been around another baby, let alone seven! He was fussing when we got there because he was hungry, but once more people arrived (we were second) he couldn't concentrate on that bottle. Then it was all just too much and I got this:

Just like his daddy - goes to a party and falls asleep! He was the only baby who did, besides the hostess's baby who took a nap in her crib. It was only a 20 minute nap, but that's pretty impressive considering he was in the swing in the middle of that noisy room! WHOO for a baby who can sleep through noise!

I'm looking forward to the next one. I'm missing a lot of them coming up here, because they're either pampering-type outings like getting pedicures (which I can't afford) or going out to eat. I gave up all eating out, including snack type things (like Cinnabon) and Starbucks, for Lent. It's HAAARRRRRRDDDDDD! I know I can do it though. Tomorrow is going shopping at the mall near my house. I'm thinking of going, but I'll have to take my own lunch. How much will it suck to sit in the food court watching everyone else enjoy Panda Express and Paradise Bakery while I'm eating a sandwich from home? UGH!

No one said making new friends would be easy!

Did the moms want to be your friend after seeing those cookies, or beat you up? Hahaha! Note that I'm polite enough to NOT give you the eye roll. Hehe.

They're beautiful...*coughshowoffcough*

Sawyer looks good in pink. ;)

Beautiful cookies.
I think it would be cool for you to do a how-to post of that. Using the fondant to decorate cookies. Just a thought.
