White Christmas?

More like WET Christmas! It rained all day today. That's fine with me, since I love rainy days. It was like a bonus present from the universe. Kick butt!

So this was Bubba's first Christmas. It's kind of anti-climactic when your kiddo is just two months old. As you can see above, he definitely is a fan of the tree, but beyond that, there's nothing for him to get. Although we bought him a stocking, we didn't put anything into the stocking. Heck, we didn't even get him any presents!

I have to tell you, there was a part of me that really felt bad about that. I mean, it's my son's first Christmas and we didn't get him a single gift! Will he ask about that in the future? Is that a detail I should include on the scrapbook page? We talked about it, and my husband and I decided that he's a two month old, and honestly, there's nothing he needs and he's too little to want anything beyond a bottle and a nap. Also, we just don't have the room to store unnecessary stuff in this apartment. The toys he has he doesn't play with yet, because he's too little, so why add more just for the sake of adding more, you know?

In the end, practicality won out.

He did receive some gifts in the mail though. There were some cute outfits from Grandma. He got a really cool board book with tactile pictures from the family who recieved my last breastmilk donation. (If we're going to have a lot of any item in this house, it will be books!) His Uncle Don and Aunt Nancy sent a really cute bath set with an awesome hooded towel. He's just about outgrown the one we've been using, so this is perfect! Oh, and there was a wooden counting and stacking toy that Grandma sent too. It's exactly the sort of thing I would have bought for him.

Each of the dogs got a bully stick, and then later Leila modeled Bubba's Santa hat. Their heads are similar sizes. She's rocking the "Wookie" look these days because her mom doesn't have the time or patience for a full on dog haircut. I clipped her nails, trimmed around her face, and called it good.

I received some lovely items as well. I got the pouring shield I wanted for my mixer, some pretty snowflake votive holders, a Crate & Barrel gift card, handmade soap, a book on cake decorating with instructions, techniques, photos, and recipes, all the fun scrapbook loot from when my husband took me to the scrapbook store earlier this month, and my absolute favorite item, an All Clad colander. It's so pretty, I just want to put fruit in it and set it on the table.

Actually, my husband was excited about that one too, because it will be way easier to clean than the drainer we're currently using! We also received a new down comforter, since SOME little dog peed on the last one. I'm seriously considering banning them from the bedroom if I can't find some sort of water resistant duvet cover like they sell for mattresses and pillows.

On another note, you want to know what I'm totally amused by lately?

Baby toe jam. Gross, huh? But I love it. He always has something between his toes, unless he's just had a bath. Today it was red lint from his red socks. I like to pick it out, then kiss his little piggies. I noticed the other day that his ankles are more defined (before it was just a slope from his calves to his heel) and you can see where his arches are going to be. Those feet were pretty flat before!

I don't have a picture of it, but he gets junk between his fingers too. Silly baby.

Not that you were looking for any opinions, but I say, three cheers for practicality. I'm sure you guys spent a small fortune getting your life set to bring Sawyer into the world. And like you said, what does a two month old really need? Any gifts would be more for you guys then for him. There will be plenty of time ahead for giving him gifts! I've even heard plenty of people say their one year olds were more into the paper and boxes then the toys. So, you may do a repeat next year! :) The pictures with your tree and puppy are really cute. Looks like a nice, new family Christmas. Glad you're having a happy holiday!

Don't feel bad whatsoever!

Feel bad when your kids are 2 and 6 and you STILL don't buy them anything because their grandparents and godparents tell you that they will buy everything (and you have $$$, but are so dependent on these people spoiling your kids that you bank your $$$). That's when you should feel bad.

Yes, I know folks like this, and they have the nerve to *brag* about it.

there is something so perfect about baby feet. I guess cause once they hit like 8 or 9...they become ugly feet. Heh. Enjoy those cute lil toesies...cause once they start school they look at you funny when you wanna kiss them (shrugs).
