One Month
When we took the baby for his one week post partum check up with the pediatrician, we were told that they wanted him to have gained one pound past his birthweight at his one month checkup. His birthweight was seven pounds, six ounces.
Today, he weighed nine pounds, seven ounces.
Holy crap! At this rate, maybe we will grow us a linebacker after all! I knew he felt heavier. We had to loosen the straps on the carseat this morning before we left. He also got his second HepB vaccination, and he barely cried, which shocked both of us. He was in a decidedly good mood the whole time we were there. We were given instructions to start Tummy Time by letting him lay on the floor or our chests so he could try to lift his head and look around. We were thinking oops... been doing that for a couple of weeks now!
We've noticed that he seems more aware of his surroundings. He can follow a moving object with his eyes. He likes to look out the window while getting his diaper changed. He will look at his reflection in the bathroom mirror and also in the mirror over the carseat. He's noticed the little frog toy that we hung from the handle of the carseat. Also, lately he likes to sit on my lap facing away from me so he can look around:
Cleavage makes a great baby headrest, FYI.
It's kind of crazy to be sitting in the exam room and hearing all the other, older kids that come in shrieking bloody murder because they know EXACTLY why they are there. I don't look forward to those days at all. At least a baby is pretty oblivious and forgets what just happened pretty quickly.
I took some photos today, because my slacker behind still has yet to do her birth announcements. Oops! I did one with the Uglydoll as my "growth gauge", so to speak. I forgot to do one right when we got home, but hopefully I'll remember to do them on his monthly birthdays. Sure, I could have used a teddy bear or stuffed dog like everyone else, but where's the fun in that? I will pick the best one, clean it up a bit, plug it into the Photoshop document I have waiting, and send it for printing. Hopefully they don't give me grief over it.
Here are a few more shots:

Awww, he's growing great. That little belly, so cute! He looks like such the serious little man. :)
ohhhhh he's so cute! Glad to know the shots went well. It's so awful to see that big long shot go in their soft little thigh. It seems cruel and unusual. We just took my 4 year old daughter and my 1 year old son for shots on Halloween day. He got 4 shots and she got like 6 shots. I think she wasn't all that sure she would be getting shots so it was sort of a bummer for her but they said she's all good for school now and won't be needing any more so that was a milestone event. My little guy was absolutely P.O'd. he made his little lip stick out and his hands were in a fist.
I read somewhere that the growth charts at a lot of doctors offices are based on formula fed babies. Breastmilk fed babies grow faster in the beginning and then level off sooner.
Love the picture with the uglydoll! :) He's adorable!
Look at you miss photographer. I love it! Putting him next to a stuffed animal or object for his size reference is such a good idea. Are you planning to do that monthly? Great pictures! He's darling.
Cute pics! Don't worry about not doing the announcements yet. We just got an announcement for DH's cousin who was born at the beginning of June!
He is such a doll!! Congrats on making it through one month, they will continue to fly by.
Aaaaaaahh. Look at him! happy one month little man! I love the ugly doll gauge. I wish I had thought of that! May have to use that idea with this little bean.
Just when I think, man he sure looks like his daddy, I scroll to the next picture and totally see you! And look at that lil' belly, it just screams for blow kisses! Hehehe.
happy birthday wee one! he sure is getting lots of facial expressions. it amazes me how fast they become alert and expressive.
Happiest One Monther little man!
