Easter Decor.

I totally phoned it in for Easter when it came to decorating.

I put a wreath on the door. I wanted an egg wreath but they are not cheap! Neither is just buying eggs to glue on your own. I was going to spray paint eggs like I did last year, but felt much too lazy for all that. I happened to find this egg wreath at Goodwill one day. I tell you, all you have to do is say you want something out loud and eventually the Goodwill will deliver!

The eggs are slightly cracked but the paint is mostly intact. I was going to fix it, but then I said screw it. No one is going to be able to tell from the street! I hung it on the door but it looked terribly small. I layered it over this woven wreath (also from Goodwill) and now it looks more proportional. I didn't even glue it in place. I just hung them both from the hook!

Pottery Barn had all these little displays of miniature nests of eggs on little balls of moss in various dishes and apothecary jars. I loved the idea but hated what they were charging. I told the universe that I wanted to find little nests, and behold! Goodwill delivered once again with not only the nests, but the eggs too. I kept meaning to buy moss for these, but you know how that goes. I forgot.

The hutch got a few small things. Some plastic colored eggs from last Easter, some faux apples I found on clearance at Fresh and Easy, of all places, and this guy:

If you don't see what I see, you are clearly more mature than I am. For fifty cents at the Goodwill there was no way I was passing him up. He is now my favorite Easter decoration.

I couldn't decide what to do with the mantel. I pulled out all the apothecary jars and filled them with various items. The decorative stones, nests, miniature eggs, the green sea glass, the pussy willows, and the ceramic bunnies were all found at Goodwill. I was going to change the quote on the chalkboard, but again, you know how that goes! LAZY.

I did manage to change the quote on the smaller one though! Yay, me!

I needed some sort of garland somewhere, so I made this one, inspired by a Pottery Barn window display, for the patio doors. This is a terrible picture. One day I'll learn how to take a photo of a window during daylight hours. I'll post the mini tutorial on these tomorrow.

While this is not Easter decor, it still is home decor so I wanted to post it. I've been dreaming of getting an upright piano for a while and placing it on this wall. Unfortunately, it's not really in the budget, especially if we're thinking about having another baby in the next year or so. I did need more space for books though. I had a box full of cookbooks in the garage and the shelves I had were pretty much full.

We went to Ikea and got another full sized Billy bookcase plus the brackets to angle the smaller shelf we already had in the corner. It looks so nice and we have plenty of room to grow now! My cookbooks are now all out and I was able to pull out my glass decanters (Goodwill, n'est-ce pas) and vintage glasses (Junior League Rummage Sale - fifty cents each!) to set up a small bar of sorts! The white vase was also from Goodwill. I paid $2 for it, but you can still buy them for $8 at Ikea.

The sign on the shelf says It Does Not Matter in French. Kind of my visual reminder to not sweat the small stuff, if that makes sense. The frame came from Goodwill (broken record here) and I painted it an off white with acrylic paint. When that was dry, I watered down brown acrylic paint, brushed it on, waited 30 seconds, then gently wiped it off with a dry paper towel. This gave it sort of an aged look. I covered the cheesy quote that was in it with scrapbook paper and then added the vinyl letters to the glass to give them a little dimension. Quick and easy!

That concludes the 2011 Easter tour of Casa de Fehling!

What's awesome is that this is dialed down for you. You are so festive, crafty and cute. The new Easter banner looks great! I'm excited to see the details about it in your upcoming post. I just love your house. It feels like a home, and little things like this are part of that. Sawyer is lucky to have such a fun mama.
