Happy Thanksgiving! ( a day early, but whatever)

One of my pet peeves in life is when people say "Happy Turkey Day."

Um, no. It is not Turkey Day. The pilgrims did not celebrate Turkey Day with the Native Americans. They had a feast of Thanksgiving to celebrate all the blessings they had received in the new land. To call it Turkey Day focuses on the gluttony of the day instead of the reason we celebrate it in the first place - as a way to celebrate our blessings and to give thanks for all we have.

That being said, however, you know I'm a fat kid. Just because there is a primary reason doesn't mean there can't be a secondary one...

Unfortunately, we will not be having a Thanksgiving feast this year. The previous tenants in our new home overstayed their welcome by a week, pushing back the ability of the landlord to complete much needed repairs, which pushed back the day new carpet can be installed. Trust me, new carpet NEEDS to be installed - those people were NOT very clean. Anyway, the carpet is getting put in on Monday which is a problem since we need to be out of the apartment by Tuesday at 2 pm for inspection. Also, our carpets are scheduled to be cleaned in the apartment on the 29th, which means all of our furniture and belongings need to be out and the walls need to be painted back to the original white.

Can you say, Stressful Problem?

This holiday weekend I'm working on cleaning the bathrooms and the kitchen in the new place so we can move stuff in there, and then I don't have to worry about where we'll bathe or store our food. There's no carpet in those rooms so that's not an issue. Everything else will have to go in the garage for now. The thought of my mattress in there skeeves me out, but what can you do? We'll be sleeping on an air mattress that we can take up during the day for a few nights and living out of suitcases.

I'm trying to remember to count my blessings and be thankful that we are getting to finally move into a house with a yard, but holy crap it's hard with this time crunch! Our apartment has already been rented (the new tenant's name is already in the mailbox) so there's no asking to stay here longer either. BLAH.

I'm really looking forward to December 2nd when this will all be over.

Wow, that is a lot!! At least you have the garage to and the rooms without carpet to store things. I say put your mattress in the kitchen!! ;) Good luck, you'll get through this and then the christmas decorating in your new house can begin!

Oh, that's a LOT. But I am so glad for you that you get to MOVE. That's a big deal, and one I know you've been ready for for a while. We were in the same (similar) spot four Thanksgivings ago when we moved into our current home. We closed two days after Thanksgiving, I think, and all our stuff was in storage. It was a mad crazy time. Hopefully you guys can make the best of it. Happy Thanksgiving!
