Finally October!

I finished my mantel in the nick of time, because it's finally October, folks!

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, and for me, October marks the beginning of that wonderful season. It's when the temperatures finally begin to cool off. As I type this, it's ONLY 96 degrees outside! By Halloween hopefully it will be closer to 75. That may not seem significant to most people, but after about four or five months of temperatures in the triple digits (including many many days over 110 degrees) that is freaking AWESOME. Forget sweaters - I look forward to getting to wear shirts with long sleeves!

It also marks the beginning of the holiday season. First, Halloween, followed by Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year. Heck, I'll even throw in Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day, even though by then I'm starting to get sad because it's hot again. I'm going to try not to think about that.

Instead - FALL! HALLOWEEN! YAY! I've started hunting down fabric for the boy's costume, because I totally plan to make it this year. It's proving to be slightly difficult, but I still have a few more fabric stores to visit before I give up and order it online.

Finally, here's a close up of the last piece of my mantel decor:

A small Goodwill frame spray painted black (satin finish Krylon) with a "vintage" Halloween postcard. I actually printed out vintage postcards that I found online for the next few holidays, so all I have to do is rotate them out. Pretty clever, huh? Even better, I've decided to start using my Scribd account to occasionally share stuff like this with my blog readers. It doesn't make sense to spend all that time cleaning up images and resizing them just for one person to enjoy them. So, click here to download these for yourself if you like, and enjoy! Just be sure to leave a small frame of white around each one so it will fit in your frame. This holds a 4" x 6" photo but the opening is not quite that big, so the image is smaller than 4" x 6".

Now, I'm off to check out that Fall Mantel post finally! I even went ahead and added this post to the party. My first blog party! If this were Twitter, I would add an #iamanerd hashtag here, but luckily, it's not. :)

I also added this to House of Hepworths and The Stories of A 2 Z link parties!

This makes me wish 2 things.

1) That I had a mantel
2) That you lived close enough that I could hire you to decorate for the holidays.

AWESOME.
