Gettin' my June (as in Cleaver) on

This morning (at the crack of 11:00, y'all, be jealous) I got up, showered and did my makeup. I even combed my hair. I put on my vintage grandma dress, red patent heels, matching red patent belt, and pearls. There was even some red lipstick involved! I took the little man to the pediatrician for his 18 month checkup, where he only grimaced slightly while getting a shot and then proceeded to try to get the nurse to give him a hug. I was told that I needed to go ahead and give him the juice I had been avoiding (sugar and empty calories, anyone?) because he needed vitamin c so that he wouldn't get scurvy.

Yup. Scurvy.

So, we came home and I gave him an almond butter sandwich and some yogurt for lunch. I also juiced one of the oranges we got at the farmer's market for him. I mixed up some greens with a banana and milk for my husband and I, then it was off to Whole Foods. We picked up a few things to round out our meals this week, and food for the dogs since my itchy dog has to eat expensive two ingredient hippie dog chow. I remembered it was Earth Day, and also remembered to use not only my canvas bags, but my hemp produce bags as well. Everything we bought from the produce section was local, except the bananas. Not a lot of bananas 'round these parts. The only packaged, processed food (besides cheese, which TOTALLY does not count) that I bought was some organic cheese tortellini and organic spinach and cheese ravioli for the baby and some Whole Foods brand cheese puffs for the husband, per his request. Oh, and baby yogurt, because no way in heck am I making yogurt. Yuck.

I even bought myself some bright green spider mums, because they made me happy.

When I got home, I donned my pretty pink apron and got to work. First thing - flowers into water. Then I started chopping and measuring things for dinner. I tried a recipe for a knockoff of the Olive Garden's Zuppa Toscana from this. It had too much salt and not enough broth, so I'm going to try this one next time. Also, I used sweet Italian sausage instead of the spicy for which it called because that was what I had in the house so maybe that was the problem. This was the first time I've ever cooked kale. There is more still in the fridge that I plan on making into chips tomorrow.

Once that was simmering, I started a loaf of bread. While the stone in the oven was heating and the dough was resting, I hung some frames on the wall. It's looking good so far. I need to print a few more photos and find one more frame and it will be done. I also played peek a boo under my apron and tag with the baby for a bit and mixed up some more bread dough for the fridge. While the bread was in the oven, the boy got sent off for a nap and I mixed up some oatmeal chocolate chip (raisins are for suckas) cookie dough, which I have not been able to stop thinking about since Jaimee Rose tweeted about it yesterday. That got put into the fridge to wait until after dinner for baking.

Dinner was our ridiculously salty (I only put 1/2 tsp of salt in there! I swear!) soup, fresh bread, and fresh lemonade.

As we speak (or as I write, I guess) the kitchen is clean, the boy is still asleep (edited to add - he's up!), there are cookies in the oven and the house smells delicious. I did have to remove my belt due to some taste testing of the dough that may or may not have occurred while my husband was doing dishes.

I'm okay with that.

Now I want to wear a dress and look pretty while scrubbing the house from top to bottom... "Want," being the key word, here (read: not going to happen, lol). DH (who doesn't eat veggies) LOVES Zuppa Tuscana, and even eats the kale, so we've made it a few times. I've also done kale chips with the leftovers; they were good but I couldn't eat too many. Maybe I made them wrong.

Well, I should say so June! Seriously, what a domestic day. And you did it all in red pumps. That's darling! I was blown away by your productivity. I don't do that much around the house in a week ... or three. Impressive!!

p.s. Do you want to adopt me?
