Dinner These Days

This is pretty much what dinner these days looks like at our house:

Okay, so he doesn't get a teeny napkin. I just did that for the picture because I thought it was funny. He does, however, get a miniature version of our plates, also in porcelain, and a miniature fork, that is metal. His dinner consists of the same foods that we are having, only cut up in smaller pieces. It's really cool to be able to all sit down together for a meal of the same foods.

We've been doing this for about the past month or so, and I have to say, it's been really nice to not have to deal with special baby meals. I don't have to make purees anymore! I still plan on doing fruits, because they're good to mix into his yogurt for breakfast smoothies. More often than not though he'll just have a waffle and some cut up fruit.

We're also starting to branch out into foods that I never thought I'd give him. I'd like to keep him on fruits and veggies and all that healthy stuff, but the truth of the matter is that if I want him to gain weight, those aren't going to cut it. Also, my diet doesn't entirely consist of those things, and he wants to eat what I'm eating. Therefore, he's been getting (within reason, of course) ice cream, chicken nuggets, french fries, cake, muffins, and Doritos.

I know. There went my Super Mom award. :)

That mini meal is adorable. Does he do well with utensils? Jenna still confuses which end of her fork she's supposed to use. :)
It must be so nice to be able to all eat the same thing -- it's not quite so easy in our house. Dave won't eat vegetables, and Jenna's been toothless up until yesterday (we've got one finally coming in).
What do you think is Sawyer's favorite food? It sounds like he's a much better eater than my kid, for sure.

You are SO right - it is nice to be able to sit down and have everyone eat the same meal. And I think it's great that you expose him to many different types of foods (I'm not talking about the Doritos! LOL). I'm a firm believer in that. Neither one of my kids are picky eaters and I really believe it's because I didn't cater to "kid food" for them when they were smaller. I didn't have one thing and feed them mac & cheese or pb&j. As far as the junk food goes, that just makes you a normal mom, imho. I don't know if I honestly believe a mom who said their kid has NEVER had a french fry, kwim? LOL :)
(But I still say you should get a Super Mom award for that birthday party!)

that's awesome that he's such a great eater! Sami was with the purees, but now that she's on solids not so much. And if it's on a spoon from mom- NO WAY! I always offer her what we are eating though. Hopefully soon she'll be as good an eater as Sawyer.

The baby can eat all of that?! That's like my portion size. LOL!
