Garbage.

We got a piece of paper stuck on our front door today offering us a new "amenity." For a mere 83 cents a day, we can enjoy a "Trash Valet" service where someone will come to our door to take our garbage to the dumpsters. All we have to do, after paying up first, of course, is just leave our trash outside the door for pickup.

I have to ask - when will the money grubbing at this place end? First,
management tells us that we can’t pay with credit cards anymore. That pissed me off, because I’m sure that I am not the only one who uses a rewards card to pay my rent. That's almost 900 points a month that I'm missing out on here. I know that they don't owe that to me though. Hey – it’s their prerogative to suspend all attempts at customer satisfaction once they have us locked into our leases, right? Now they want to introduce this Trash Valet “service.”

What I'm gathering is that they’re telling us they are so hard up for money around here that we, the residents, are going to have to look at all of our neighbor’s smelly trash sitting outside now so they can gain a buck. Why don’t we just move to the ghetto already? Sure, they say a front door trash container will be provided for us, but honestly, what will that end up looking like? A dumpster in front of every door is hardly picturesque.

Also, what about the smell? In case everyone's forgotten, we live in the land of 115 degree summer temperatures. It's over 100 degrees here for a good portion of the year. Now, instead of it just being rank near the dumpsters, the air will be redolent with the aroma of rotting trash dotted throughout the property. Pure genius!

I also have to ask – who will be the ones actually providing this Trash Valet service? I’m guessing it’s going to be the poor maintenance guys. I'm sure that’s what they signed up for when they were hired, right? To be trash jockeys? I guess it just was not bad enough that whenever you call for a maintenance request you have to wait a few days for someone to show up because they’re so swamped with service requests. What ever happened to our leasing company's 24 hour service guarantee? Heck, that’s if your request even gets through to them, because more often than not “the website lost it” or “the answering machine cuts them off sometimes.” Sure.

I think that I’d like to suggest that whoever came up with this idea (the property manager, perhaps?) be the one to haul the trash, if it is implemented. How fun would it be to see Miss Priss (who actually told me I'M SOWWY when I protested receiving a $75 late fee for paying the rent online two hours late when if we had paid with a paper check there would have been no such fee) in her bleached blonde hair and heels out there doing the work she so graciously volunteered the little people to do?

So, in summary, no, I guess that I would have to say that I am not interested in this “service”. I seriously hope that the majority of my neighbors decide that they do not want this service either so that I will not have to be subjected to having my visual or olfactory senses offended by what I am sure will work out to be a fantastic improvement to this property. I believe that the clause in our lease which states that you may not leave trash outside your apartment door (which, incidentally, has been in the lease of every apartment I’ve ever rented) was placed there for a reason – it’s just plain gross and pretty damn low class to do so.

Then again, based on pure human nature alone, I'm betting the majority of my neighbors are lazy slobs who would love this kind of thing. Great.

i wouldn't do it just for the simple fact that it's in the lease you can't. it might be an easy way for them to break the lease on some tenants even though they offered it.

Maybe it's time to move? Gosh, I hate the smell of garbage. My old babysitter growing up had an apartment complex behind her, and the trash dumpster was right next to her backyard. Gross.
