Crafting again

Guess what? I have my first "official" cake decorating job! Like, it's paid and everything! I did give a bit of a discount, but paid is paid, baby! It's for a baby shower this Saturday. I'll also be attending as a guest. Here's what I'm bringing as my gift:

I'm pretty sure the parents to be don't read my blog, so it's okay to post. I started this just under two weeks ago. I'm super proud of myself for getting it done, because let's face it, my track record with finishing these in a timely manner isn't exactly stellar. I even managed to bind the edges, although not by hand. There was definitely no time for that sort of thing. I did manage to embroider the family's last name on one of the squares though. I wanted to do the baby's name, but they haven't picked one yet. Just like all the rest of my quilts, this one is backed with flannel for extra warmth. I hope they like it.

Speaking of embroidery, here is the card I made to go with:

It's a bit washed out on my screen here. The scanner didn't care for the lumpiness I guess! I cut the cupcake parts freehand from felt. The patterned paper was from my scrap pile, as was the darker pink cardstock. I was going to put sprinkles on the cupcake too, but decided with the dots on the button cherry it would be overkill.

So, I've got my fingers in crafty pots all over the place this week! I was talking to my friend Big D on the phone the other day, and she was like, HOW do you have the TIME??? I told her that it was because I handed the baby off to my husband when he got home from work. Then, this morning, as I was looking around I realized that isn't entirely true. Most of the work on this blanket has been done during the day, while the baby was taking his (dang short thirty minute) catnaps.
The truth of the matter is, I have time because I totally neglect the housework! HA! I decided that my sanity, my happiness, and feeding my soul is more important than dusting. Apparently, my husband agrees because he hasn't really complained about it. Good man.

Congrats on the first paid cake job! Your quilt is gorgeous, I love the colors, and the size! Cute, cute card. You have been all kinds of crafty, wow! I think that's exactly my issue, I spend nearly all of my wake time at home, CLEANING and I use that as my excuse for not creating anything. I'm not sure I can find a happy balance.

Wow! Look at you. The blanket is sure to be a very appreciated gift. What a sweet gesture. That card -- ugh! that card! -- it's beautiful. So sweet and cute. I hadn't thought of using embroidery on cards and scrapbooking. Thanks for the inspiration. Now, if I can just force myself to sit down and do some creating...
