This is what today looked like.

Yeah. It was that bad.

My husband said that when he walked through the front door and saw me on the couch, his first thought was that I looked like I had been run over. Thanks Honey!

You know how they say that you should sleep when the baby sleeps? This baby only slept for 15 minutes at a time MAX today. I would get him calm and be lucky to have a chance to go run and pee before he started caterwauling at me again. He'd be awake and looking around, seemingly fine, then all of a sudden, with no warning, he'd be doing that loud, angry, panicky cry that I'm sure has my neighbors thinking I've been beating the child.
Of course, there was that one period in the middle of the day, where I successfully got him to sleep for about an hour and a half or so. That meant that I could sleep for an hour and a half, or I could eat something, go to the bathroom, wash some bottles, pump some milk, straighten up a bit... I decided that getting a little bit of sleep was the better deal.
That was, as we used to say when I taught kindergarten, a POOR CHOICE. I woke up, and decided to go pump. I was three minutes in and Sawyer woke up, angry that he was not in my arms. I stopped pumping, ran to the bedroom and grabbed him. I then got to wash bottles - one handed. I got to warm up some milk - one handed. I got to pour milk from a flimsy plastic bag into a bottle - that's right folks, one handed. All this while he screamed at me at the top of his lungs. I'm amazed at the decibel level that such a little person is capable of reaching, seriously.
I wonder how long this is going to go on.
I'd get five minutes here and there where he'd try to psych me out, and pretend to sleep.
Doesn't he look all sweet and angelic, like he could NEVER terrorize his mama?

So sweet, so precious. My son.
Then as soon as I'd be lulled into feeling like relief was in sight, he'd be like, PSYCH!!! and wake up and holler at me some more. By the time my husband got home, he had been yelling at me off and on for two and a half hours straight, with no sign of a nap in sight. I had resorted to eating the peanut M&Ms I found in the coffee table drawer because I was so hungry and looking for food one handed was too hard. A good portion of my hair had fallen out of my clip, but since I needed two hands to put it up, I had been unable to fix it.
So yeah, I got run over by an eight pound truck.
Tomorrow will be better.

"So yeah, I got run over by an eight pound truck." This one made me literally laugh out loud and smile at the memories of my own little truck (who by the way is a good inch taller than me at the moment :D )

Precious pictures.

I hope you have a better day with him today. He's probably starting to go through a growth spurt. Those pictures are adorable!

Not fun. Not fun at all. You know, I don't have kids, but I do have a lot of friends who do and I've gotten calls from them crying with stories like yours. I say this to tell you, you are not alone. You are not a bad mom. Your baby is not going to do this forever. And he is not a freak of nature, the only little one on earth working his mommy over. I hope today is better!

Your last two posters are right on the money.
It is hard, but this, too, shall pass. Do you think Sawyer might have gas? Our little one seemed to have the same problem with sleeping. We switched bottles with him and that seemed to help. (Dr. Brown's btw - awesome!) And since you are bf'ing, do you think it might be something in your diet that is making him uncomfortable? Just a thought.
Hope you figure it out. And hope you get a nap today. :)

OH - and a p.s.
Even though it is excruiating for you to listen to your baby cry, I promise you that he'll be okay long enough for you to pee or make his bottle. I know you just want to make everything better right away, it's natural. I know I had to be reminded of that fact several times myself. Sometimes you just need a few minutes to breathe.

Oh boy do I remember those days! Like a pp said, it's ok to let him cry long enough for you to pee or grab a quick bite, or put your hair up. Like Susanne said, pass him off to Brad when he gets home and get some sleep!
Try contacting the La Leche League to find out the best options on what to do with your excess milk since there aren't any milk banks.
Sawyer is so cute Sara!

It's a crazy time but it'll pass. He does look angelic in that last pic.

Adding my 2 cents--Maybe he's over stimulated. Try rocking him in a dark room that might soothe him. Or get a white noise machine/fan--it's amazing how they like that noise!! Hope it helps!

Those moments would really make me feel frazzled. I remember my hubby would grab our babies by the thighs and press their knees gently but firmly (and slowly)towards their stomach. I think it would help alleviate the gas in the lower intestines that made them so uncomfortable. If he gets to screaming, try it again. I think it helps them relax and either way, it takes their mind off it for a minute and they stop screaming. Oh and as for the one-handed circus act....it gets to be even more of a trick when the kid weighs 25 lbs and you're trying to get dinner ready, set the table, fill the water glasses and they are standing at your feet screaming to be picked up. What? Nobody told you about that? DOH!

This is the part where I fear about having babies. I don't know if I can handle the hour plus crying sessions.

He's so precious, though.

If you *can* get out, Nordstrom's sale has started. ;) You can always say that you are shopping for the baby. ;)
