A pouch for my wee Joey

Bought something for the little man today:

Okay, maybe it was more for me.

It occured to me that there was a way to get to use two hands to do things around the house - strap that baby to me somehow! I bought a Hotsling while I was pregnant, because I liked that it didn't have anything going between the baby's legs. I worry that it will mess up the baby's hips.

When I was a kid, I was severely pigeon toed. Like, my slacker mother actually took me to see a specialist when I was five to see if there was a way to fix it. Turned out, a combination of sitting with my legs bent back and lots and lots of time in a Johnny Jumpup messed up my hips. Fortunately, since I was still little and growing, just fixing how I sat turned my hips back out the right way again.

So anyway, I worried about messing up those growing little baby hips. The problem with the Hotsling is that when you put a newborn into it, they end up all rolled up on themselves and it doesn't look very comfortable! Apparently, it doesn't feel very comfortable either, because Sawyer has screamed bloody murder at me three of the four times I've stuck him in that thing. I figure it would probably be better if he could sit up and I could use it to strap him to my hip, but he's too little for that still.

We headed out to Babies R Us to get a front carrier. The first one I tried was pretty uncomfortable, despite getting good reviews online. The shoulder straps totally were cutting into my neck, and that sucker was HOT. Sawyer didn't like it either. I put him in it and he screamed at me the whole time, so we decided that was a no-go.

When I tried this one though, he settled right down! It was definitely a LOT cooler than the other one, and bonus - the binky was nicely held in place by my chest! SOLD!

Today was much, much better than yesterday. Little man was more cooperative today. We went to visit the lactation consultant, and he is up to 8 lbs, 10 ounces. That's a 9 oz gain in the last six days! Being a chunky butt runs in the family, I guess. We talked about my milk problem, and it turns out that even if there isn't a milk bank in your area, they will arrange for you to ship it to them. She gave me a pamphlet to look over.

I am so thankful for this good day! I really needed it.

That carrier is awesome, you will love it!! And good for you donating the milk! That will really help some little ones. I work in a hosp that uses donated milk for our preemies and its a well loved program.
