Easily Distracted

So... what SHOULD I have been doing today, after we picked up our co-op basket? Well, I should have been making a grocery list and a meal plan for this week. What did I do instead?

I slacked off for a few hours, satisfied a craving for Doritos (bad) and then took a four hour nap with my boys. All of us together, in bed. It was nice. I'm not gonna lie.

So then we got up at SIX FREAKING THIRTY in the evening, and I got started making dinner. We had stir fry and steamed rice. That baby is becoming quite the gastronome. He ate everything - pork, napa cabbage, mushrooms, celery, rice. This week he's also had shrimp and gnocchi in vodka sauce, lemon cod with rice pilaf and broccoli, turkey meatloaf with mashed potatoes and corn... I'm a proud mama, to say the least. I love having a good eater and dread the start of that toddler/picky eater thing. After dinner there was kitchen cleanup to be done before I got to work. After all, I have a birthday party for which to prepare here!

So... what SHOULD I have been doing this evening? I should have been making royal icing monkeys for the sugar cookies I'm making later this week. What did I do instead?

I tried out a new chocolate chip cookie recipe. Then, while they were baking, I made little buckles from chipboard, patterned paper scraps, and glitter. See?

I actually sat there with a ruler and sketched out that shape so that it would be all pretty and symmetrical. My sixth grade shop teacher, Mr. Malokowski, would be glad to see that I did learn something from his mechanical drawing lessons twenty years ago. I'm so making a whole mess of these to use on my Christmas presents instead of bows. It's GLITTERY, people.

GLITTER. IS. AWESOME.

Except of course when you didn't wait for the glue to dry long enough and you end up with glitter all over your ribbon and box. Then it kind of sucks. (Duh, Sara.) Luckily, a little piece of Scotch tape that's been slightly de-tackified by being applied to your jeans a time or two took care of all the stray flecks.

And why, yes, that IS one of my pretty bakery boxes that I posted about the other day. What's inside?

Chocolate chip cookies. Of course.

Well, that pretty much sounds like the perfect weekend day to me, whether it was a distracted one or not. Your cookies look delicious, and those glittery ribbon buckles are adorable. Long naps with the boy(s) you love -- not much beats that!

I, personally think you must share a recipe for chocolate chip cookies. I need a soft cookie recipe that tastes amazing and stays chewy!!!
