In Sixteen Days
In sixteen days I'm going to be 33! Remember when that sounded so OLD??? Now I'm sitting here saying I'm not old! I'm young! Ah, how times change.
For fun, I thought I'd put together a fantasy birthday wishlist. In no way, shape or form do I expect to get all this stuff, or even any of it for that matter. It's fun to dream though, isn't it? First and foremost on the list:
Mini Power Sander
I know, it seems weird, but hear me out. I really really really want to paint the chairs in my dining room red. I've been told that I can just prime and paint them, but I would feel better about it if I were to sand them first. No way am I sanding all four by hand, which is where this little beauty would come in. After I do the chairs, I could do the table, then the armoire in my bedroom, then the headboard and nightstands to match...
A copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking
How can I claim to have a decent collection of cookbooks if I don't have this one in my arsenal? The catch? I'd really prefer a vintage copy of this. I have a vintage copy of The Joy of Cooking who needs a friend. It's proving to be hard to find one that's older than 1975 and isn't all gross and stained. For those wondering, they're teeny tiny plates that you use to serve individual servings of butter. I was thinking it would be cute to use them for individual hors d'oeuvres at a party. It's easy to find individual ones, but they're usually expensive ($5 for a two inch plate is CRAZY) and I would prefer sets of five or more, for cohesiveness. I found these, these, and these on eBay that I liked. There was also a set of eight a few weeks ago with teeny violets off to the side that were just gorgeous, but they were going for a LOT.

Another little tidbit for which I've been searching lately. Again, these are so expensive in antique stores, running about what the butter pats do. They're so darling though! My cheese grater is GHETTO. It's clumsy to use and slides all over so it's probably not very safe. Sara, you might be saying to yourself, why are you grating cheese by hand? You can buy it pre-grated!!! While you may be correct about that, what you may not realize is that pre-grated cheese is coated in cornstarch so it won't stick to itself. That cornstarch can throw off the consistency of your finished dish, so it's not always a good idea to use it. Also, a block of cheese is way more economical than a little bag of grated cheese. Enter the lovely Microplane Box Grater. It has four grating sides, a sturdy handle with a comfy grip, and non-slip feet! Microplane also makes the best graters out there, so you know this will last a long time.

This is one of those things that I would probably never buy for myself, but I would be super ecstatic to receive as a gift. I know. I'm weird. It's just so pretty! I would love it in Maraschino Red, Caribbean Aqua, and maybe even Black.
This one is never going to happen because they don't ship them to this state anyway. Actually, what I'd like is a real regular lemon tree, but until we move into a house that's not going to happen. Not only could I do monogram cookies with these, I could use them to spell out words in fondant on the sides of cakes! Genius! They also have a set that are numbers which I think would be fun for specific birthdays. I have a set of teeny alphabets, but at three inches tall, these make a statement.And finally,

I posted about needing a pair of these in my felt food post. I love these because they're all metal, no plastic and they have such a classic look to them.I'm looking at the stuff I posted and I guess I'm just a total homebody, eh?

Good thing I'll also be turning 33 in 15 days! I can put together my own list.
I've scraped myself hardcore on my crappy cheese grater, but I never thought to look for a better one. duh! And I have 2 of those little butter dishes. i didn't know what they were called. I use them for serving oil with bread.
I also have pinking shears that were passed to me and I have no idea what to use them for. I have to look at them though, they are old and might be ghetto
I TOTALLY WANT ALL THIS STUFF! Well, except the cook book - I have that one curtest of the hubs this bday :)
Sara I have a sander thing that looks like that if you want to borrow it--I am out of the sand paper but I am sure its easy to find--Its not an amazing one but I used it to sand down an armoire and it got the job done
I absolutely love the idea of a lemon tree. I'm willing to assume they won't ship to my state either, but I'll have to look into it. I'm trying to really get into doing more housewife-ish things (yes I have now created a new word) and would love to have lemons on demand - zest anyone?
I'll be turning 33 this year too. Crazy thought! Now it doesn't seem as old as it sounded when I was 15 :) I love the idea of your wishlist post...fun idea!
